Did Boehner Bring His Backbone to the Iran Deal Debate?

Conservatives across the U.S. – and around the world –
have trashed the recent Iranian nuclear deal, alleging Barack Obama helped the
enemy nation secure a pathway to expanding its weapons program.
Almost immediately after negotiators reached an
agreement, Republican
legislators like Ted Cruz were breaking down its more worrisome
aspects while others – including Rep. Tom Cotton – pleaded with fellow
lawmakers to block
the deal’s implementation.
To the surprise of many intraparty critics, House
Speaker JohnBoehner
seemed to support precisely that outcome ahead of congressional deliberations
yesterday.
While Obama’s yes men struggle to spin the Iran deal
in a positive direction, he seems more interested in restoring another deeply
damaged part of his legacy. His performance
during a recent episode of The
Daily Show proved
he is still seems to be painting a misleading portrait of one of his
administration’s most brazen scandals.

Official Odds of a Trump
Win
The
political news that dominated the past two weeks was the rise of Donald Trump.
A month ago, Donald Trump wasn’t barely present in opinion polls; today, his
approval ratings double those of the runner-up, Jeb Bush. Even after the
offensive comment he made about how John McCain was not a war hero, because he
was a prisoner of war, Donald Trump is being labeled the Republican front
runner by the media. But does he actually stand a chance of winning the
nomination?
According
to political bettors, his odds are extremely slim. As of Tuesday, July 21st,
the political betting sites were showing a 5% probability that Donald Trump
wins the Republican nomination.
Political
betting sites allow bettors to bet on the outcome of political events, at
certain odds. The odds at which these bets can be wagered on are market driven,
meaning they go up or down based on bettors buying them. We then convert these
odds into a probability in percentage terms, to determine what probability bettors
are placing on political events.
Despite
Trump leading in the opinion polls, bettors are wagering on a victory for Jeb
Bush. In fact, for every week since May 16th, Jeb Bush has been the
favorite to win the nomination in the eyes of the bettors. Jeb Bush’s chances
actually went up 2% as Trump was rising in the opinion polls.
Trump’s chances of
winning the General Election are predictably low; less than 1%, whereas Jeb
Bush has a 19% chance.
Trump’s rise is
probably good for Jeb in the long run: Trump is setting himself up as the main
opposition to Jeb’s moderate, establishment ideology. Since Trump is nowhere
close to a serious candidate, and frequently embarrasses himself,
Republican voters who previously might have been tempted to vote for a
non-establishment candidate will be dismayed by his conduct, and turn more
towards Jeb.
Despite Trump’s
accelerated rise in opinion polls this past week, and political pundits
labeling him the Republican front-runner, the consensus from political bettors
is that he is not a viable candidate for either the Republican nomination, or
the presidency.

Obama Just Tried To Rewrite History Straight To
Jon Stewart’s Face About This HUGE Scandal
In a classic and cynical attempt to never accept blame...
Obama actually went so far as to claim that the IRS never
intentionally targeted tea party groups, despite the well-known fact that the
agency’s own inspector general has concluded that the IRS did bear down
on tea party and other conservative organizations with excessive scrutiny
that many termed “intimidation.”

One has to wonder what Obama must be thinking to believe he can tell
such a blatant whopper in such cavalier fashion and not be called on it. A
quick search of media coverage of the targeting scandal reveals the May, 2013
article in The Washington Post with the headline,
“IRS admits targeting conservatives for tax scrutiny in 2012 election.”
“The Internal Revenue Service on Friday apologized for targeting groups
with ‘tea party’ or ‘patriot’ in their names,” reported the Post, “confirming
long-standing accusations by some conservatives that their applications for
tax-exempt status were being improperly delayed and scrutinized.”
Before she clammed up and refused to testify to congressional
investigators, the former IRS official at the center of the targeting scandal
Lois Lerner herself disclosed the “absolutely inappropriate” behavior. As the Post article notes:

It was not clear
whether the IRS had anticipated the firestorm that it would ignite with its
disclosure. Indeed, it appeared to have happened by chance when Lerner,
appearing Friday at a conference held by the American Bar Association,
responded to a question about the allegations by conservative groups.
In June, 2013, The Washington Examiner reported that the
inspector general at the Treasury Department concluded that conservative groups
had been selected for special scrutiny by the IRS far more than progressive
organizations.
“Refuting Democratic suggestions that progressive groups were also swept
up in the IRS probe of the tax status of Tea Party organizations,” the Examiner
article states, “the Treasury Department’s inspector general has revealed that
just six progressive groups were targeted compared to 292 conservative groups.”
Yet, President Obama, yucking it up with comedian Jon Stewart last
night, brazenly deflected any responsibility for the IRS targeting scandal from
his administration and actually blamed lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
President Obama
defended the IRS Tuesday in an interview with “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart,
saying the tea party-targeting scandal was actually Congress‘ fault for passing
“a crummy law” and that the real problem is the agency doesn’t have enough
money.
Aiding in the president’s cynical attempt to recast the IRS scandal as
something other than what it was is not only the tax agency itself but also
Obama’s Justice Department, as an investigative piece on Politicorecently revealed.
The Politico article says the investigation into the scandal is fading into a
distant memory because of a purposeful and often-practiced tactic called
“death by delay.”

conception), a point in human development when babies can feel pain and survive
long-term if born prematurely.
The law includes an exeption for cases in which a physical health issue endangers the life of the mother, but Hillary Clinton still denounced the late-term aboriton ban as an "extreme and unacceptable" measure.
Clinton especially objects to the fact that Wisconsin's law doesn't include an exception to allow the killing of infants late in pregnancies that resulted from rape. But laws in the blue states of Pennsylvania and New York (which take effect, respectively, at 22 weeks and 24 weeks after conception) also prohibit late-term abortions in that circumstance. Does Clinton think liberal New York's aboriton law is also "extreme and unacceptable"?
Republicans in Congress have not only tolerated the legality of abortion in pregnancies that result from rape, they have voted since 1993 for laws allowing federal Medicaid funding of abortions in these extreme cases in order prohibit funding in more than 99 percent of other cases. But even if one accepts this exception for principled or prudential reasons, it does not follow that this exception must exist in the ninth month of pregnancy. Source: The Weekly Standard
