Significado de la Letra del Año
Para
aquellas personas que se interesan por conocer el significado de la letra del
año, las actividades y los ritos que son necesarios, conocidos también entre
muchos como Odu Tití, no es mas que un arduo ritual dandole de conocer a dios y
las diferentes deidades que estamos en vispera de un nuevo año y tenemos la
necesidad de obtener una guia a seguir en ese nuevo periodo segun el signo que
dios nos envia mediante el oraculo de Ifa.
La primera vez que se sacó la Letra de
Año en Cuba fue a comienzos del siglo XX, cuando era Don Tomas Estrada Palma el
primer presidente de Cuba. La organizó y la dirigió el Babalawo Remigio Herrera
Adechina (Obara Meyi), en compañía de sus ahijados Eulogio Rodríguez, Tata
Gaitan (Ogunda Fun), Bernardo Rojas (Irete Entendí), Oluguere, Salvador
Montalvo y otros babalawos entre ellos Ño Carlos Ardevi, (Ojuani Boca). Tanto
Adechina como Oluguere y Ño Carlos Ardevi, eran de orígenes africanos.
Luego Bernardo Rojas se hace cargo de la obtención de la Letra del Año, a la muerte de Adechina en el 1906 en compañía de Secundino Crucet (Osalofobeyo), Bernabé Menocal (Baba Eyiogbe), José Asunción Villalonga (Ogunda Masa), Juan Antonio Ariosa (Obetua), Joaquín Salazar (Osalofobeyo), Cornelio Vidal (Obeche), Aurelio Estrada, “Babel” (Baba Eyiogbe), Miguel Febles (Odika) y otros Awóses más. Estas ceremonias se fueron incrementando con la asistencia a estas de los jefes de familia, al paso de los años y después de haber cesado la prohibición que existía por las autoridades del país en aquel entonces para efectuar ceremonias que no estuvieran dentro de las concepciones católicas.
Al fallecer Bernardo Rojas, fueron Joaquín Salazar con el Dr. José Herrera, los encargados de realizar tales actividades con el concurso de un considerable número de babalawos. Para la década del 80 esta dirección de la Letra recayó en manos de Miguel Febles Padrón. Así esta practica y costumbre religiosa fue siendo traspasada de generación en generación hasta nuestros días, en muchas Provincias de Cuba por ejemplo, la gente está atenta cada primero de año, para conocer el Odu y los Oshas que regirán los destinos de ese año. Muchas casas religiosas esperan con mucha atención estas orientaciones de los santos, y conocer de primera manos cuales serán las ceremonias y ritos, que deberán acometerse en el transcurso del año ya que se espera que estas ayuden a obtener las buenas venturas que todos desean.
Precisamente la letra de cada año, tienen como objetivo principal, la orientación espiritual a la sociedad a través de sus consejos y orientaciones, los que deben coadyuvar en buena medida a la solución de los múltiples problemas a los que nos enfrentamos diariamente. En el Odu Oyekun Nilogbe se habla del concilio de Babalawos y de la preocupación de Olofin porque estos dijeran la verdad.
Con tales objetivos es que se reúne anualmente un grupo numeroso de Babalawos, en cada país, en los llamados concilios, los cuales indagan a nuestras deidades sobre los destinos, incidencias y posibles soluciones que puedan ayudarnos, válido tanto para nuestra población religiosa como para aquellos que no lo son. Porque los resultados de estas prácticas no resultan de ninguna manera una actividad particular para un grupo religioso en cuestión, sino que engloba a toda la sociedad como tal. Estos concilios se realizan en países tales como Cuba, Estados Unidos, Panamá, México, Venezuela y Puerto Rico por citar algunos, según estamos observando existe una marcada tendencia a su compartimentación, esto es, que están surgiendo muchas casas santorales donde se están celebrando estos concilio y esto es nefasto para los grandes y graves problemas sociales ya que se pierde el concepto de globalización social para convertirse entonces en un problema de orientación familiar, esto no quiere decir que estamos en contra de forma alguna en la orientación familiar, porque en definitivas desde nuestros ancestros africanos fue así, y es en cada casa santoral donde se materializan las obras y donde Ud. puede recibir a plenitud la bendición de sus mayores. Pero se trata de un pronostico muchos más profundos con incidencias para toda una sociedad o país a eso no se le puede dar un tratamiento de una casa en particular, aquí no sólo se dan consejos y orientaciones a problemas religiosos-espirituales sino que también resulta una magnifica guía por donde podamos canalizar nuestras inquietudes, aspiraciones y ansiedades ya que toca muy de cerca los problemas diarios de las gentes, en lo que respecta a los problemas de la política, la economía y los difíciles problemas gubernamentales.
Por otra parte resulta lamentable no poder reunir todo estos esfuerzos, conocimientos y experiencia en un solo concilio en cada país, lo que se revertiría muy positivamente sobre nuestras sociedades y le inyectaría a nuestro mundo religioso una gran fuerza espiritual. La letra del año tal y como se da a conocer sigue por regla general un mismo patrón. Un Odu principal llamado Odu Toyale y dos Odu consecutivos que harán las funciones de testigos, que contribuyen y apoyan al toyale, de la combinación de estos Odu se obtiene lo siguiente: Si estamos en presencia de un año que viene Iré u Osobo y de estos los beneficios o los maleficios que nos estarán influenciando durante el año. Sus posibles soluciones o atenuaciones. Los Oshas u Orishas que estarán dominando en el año, las ofrenda que piden, los sacrificios que tengamos que realizar, los ritos y ceremonias necesarias para vencer las dificultades y el tratamiento que haya que darle a nuestro entorno para su limpieza (puerta de la casa, casa, habitaciones etc.) finalmente y lo más importante los consejos que cada Babalawo presente, aporta de acuerdo con esas combinaciones de Odu para hacer los pronósticos y recomendaciones del signo u Odu.

U.S. Judge: Obama Homeland Security Aiding Criminal Conspiracies
The Obama administration’s Department of Homeland Security is brazenly violating
U.S. law and participating in criminal conspiracies to smuggle illegal
immigrants into the United States, U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen said in a
December ruling. He also noted that the schemes were helping to fund Mexican
drug cartels and jeopardizing the lives of children. According to Hanen, the
apparent Obama administration policies in question are part of a trend and
represent a “dangerous course of action,” costing taxpayers huge sums while
enriching criminal syndicates.
The stinging criticism and exposure of Obama’s
Homeland Security apparatus and its lawless actions focused on a wide array of
problems with the controversial human-trafficking machinations. Among other
concerns, the judge said the administration was breaking the law; encouraging
and rewarding criminals who continue violating the law; ensuring a steady
stream of funds for dangerous Mexican drug cartels involved in human smuggling;
endangering the lives of children; and much more. The court, Hanen wrote, is
“quite concerned with the apparent policy of the Department of Homeland
Security of completing mission of individuals who are violating the border
security of the United States.”
The judge’s comments, which have attracted
headlines across the nation, focused on one case in particular — the subject of
the order. The criminal conspiracy in question involved an illegal immigrant in
the United States paying human smugglers to bring her 10-year-old child across
the border. The hired trafficker was arrested during the operation. “Despite
this setback, the goal of the conspiracy was successfully completed thanks to
the actions of the United States Government,” the judge wrote, noting that the
child was delivered to her mother in Virginia by Homeland Security. The
administration did not arrest, prosecute, or deport the mother, despite the
crimes, he added.

Quienes van a China regresan impresionados. Un producto del que Brasil fabrica un millón de unidades, allí en una sola fábrica se producen 40 millones.
La calidad es equivalente y la velocidad de distribución impresionante. Los chinos colocan cualquier producto en el mercado en cuestión de semanas, a precios que son una fracción de los brasileños.
Por estos días una de las industrias se está trasladando al interior porque los salarios de la región en que se halla instalada son demasiado altos: 100 dólares. Un obrero brasileño gana el equivalente a 300 dólares mínimo, que sumados a otros beneficios llega a 600 dólares. Cuando los comparamos con los 100 dólares que reciben los chinos sin prácticamente ningún otro beneficio… nos hallamos frente a una esclavitud amarilla, que alimentamos…
¿Horas extraordinarias? En la China … ¡Olvídelas! La gente allí está tan agradecida de tener un empleo que trabajan horas extras a cambio de nada…
Detrás de esta “situación” está la gran trampa china. No se trata de una estrategia comercial sino de una estrategia de “poder” para conquistar el mercado occidental. Los chinos están sacando provecho de la actitud de los “comerciantes” occidentales, que prefieren tercerizar la producción quedándose sólo con lo que le agrega valor: la marca.
Difícilmente podrá usted comprar en las grandes redes comerciales de los EEUU algún producto “made in USA”. Es todo “made in China” con una marca estadounidense. Las empresas ganan riadas de dinero comprando a los chinos por centavos y vendiendo luego por centenares de dólares. Sólo les interesa el lucro inmediato a cualquier precio. Aun al costo de cerrar sus fábricas y generar una brutal desocupación. Es lo que podría llamarse “estrategia del precio”.
Mientras los occidentales tercerizan sus empresas y ganan en el corto plazo, China aprovecha ese enfoque e instala unidades productivas de alto rendimiento para dominar en el largo plazo.
Mientras las grandes potencias mercantiles se quedan con sus marcas, con el diseño.. en sus garras, los chinos se quedan con la producción, asistiéndolos, estimulándolos y contribuyendo al desmantelamiento de los escasos parques industriales occidentales.
Muy pronto ya no habrá más fábricas de zapatillas deportivas o de calzados en el mundo occidental. Solo existirán en China. De modo que en el futuro próximo veremos cómo los productos chinos aumentan sus precios produciendo un “shock manufacturero” como sucedió con el shock petrolero en los años 70. Y entonces ya será demasiado tarde.
Entonces el mundo se dará cuenta de que levantar nuevas fábricas tendrá costos prohibitivos y deberá rendirse al poderío chino. Se dará cuenta de que alimentó a un enorme dragón y se convirtió en su rehén.Un dragón que aumentará gradualmente sus precios, puesto que será quién dicte las nuevas leyes del mercado y será luego quién mande pues tendrá el monopolio de la producción.
Ya que será también el dueño de las fábricas, de los stocks y de los empleos y regulará los precios.
Nosotros, nuestros hijos y nuestros nietos asistiremos a una inversión de las reglas de juego actuales, lo que producirá en las economías occidentales el impacto de una bomba atómica… china.
En ese momento cuando el mundo occidental se dé cuenta será demasiado tarde.
Ese día los ejecutivos occidentales mirarán tristemente las ruinas de sus antiguas fábricas, sus técnicos jubilados jugando a las cartas en las plazas y llorarán sobre la chatarra de sus parques fabriles destruidos. Y se acordarán entonces, con mucha nostalgia, del tiempo en que ganaban dinero comprando “fardos de mercaderías de los esclavos” y vendiendo caras sus “marcas registradas” a sus coterráneos.
Y entonces, entristecidos, abrirán sus despensas y se comerán sus marcas que ya estarán pasadas de moda y que por tanto habrán dejado de ser poderosas, porque todas habrán sido copiadas…

Presidente?
Hillary
Clinton es una abrumadora favorita para ser la candidata a la
Presidencia por el partido demócrata - y esta vez nadie,
estará en su camino-.
Los medios de comunicación
están listos para coronar a una reina.
Hillary,
la primera mujer candidato presidencial de un partido importante, va ser ungida
por los medios, Hollywood y la cultura pop — igual que ungieron al senador de
Illinois en 2008. La única diferencia entre entonces y ahora es que Obama fue
aclamado como el Mesías y con Hillary estarán listos para ascender a
su trono a la reina.
Pero ¿pueden los medios de
comunicación cubrir el terrible trabajo de Hillary como secretaria
de estado?
El
comentario de la secretaria de Estado Hillary Clinton — ¿Qué
diferencia have esto? que ella comentó en cuanto a cómo el motivo de los
terroristas en el ataque que mató a cuatro hombres, incluyendo un embajador de
Estados Unidos y dos ex Navy SEALs, es importante, y siempre estará
asociado con ella.
Para
los liberales, esto no es importante, después de todo es Hillary Clinton.
Pero
eso no es todo
Si
es el próximo candidato presidencial demócrata, tendrá que seguir a un
presidente demócrata cuyos índices de aprobación — una vez tan alto como el 76
por ciento — son ahora raspando 40. Como ex miembro del gabinete de Barack
Obama, tiene que defender lo indefendible, besar al bebé feo de Obamacare y
sonreír para las cámaras. Ella puede hacerlo — nadie tiene una cara más dura —
pero lo feo es feo y el despliegue de Obamacare ha sido justamente eso.
Obamacare
es el emblemático de la extralimitación gubernamental y arrogante liberalismo
fuera de control. El catastrófico despliegue ha sido seguido por más malas
noticias — primas mayores de lo esperado, seguros cancelados, problemas en su
implementación, después cobertura menor de lo esperado o, peor aún, sin
cobertura en absoluto.
El
programa ha dejado una impresión indeleble de la ineptitud y la deshonestidad
de esta administración.
Incluso
los liberales se preguntan si el gobierno puede hacer un artilugio de tan
extenso tamaño — y hacerlo sin pagar un costo político
Además
ella será recordada como la izquierdista clásica y la arquitecta de su propio
programa de seguro médico fallido durante la administración de su esposo.
Aquello
fue un acorazado de un proyecto de ley (1.000 páginas!) denominado Hillarycare
que fue torpedeado por republicanos y demócratas y se hundió — pero no del todo
sin dejar rastro.
Queda
por verse que si género desempeñará el papel de Clinton lo que la raza fue para
Obama. Probablemente no. La perspectiva de que una mujer se convierta en
Presidente tiene cierto aire de inevitabilidad pero no la alegre sorpresa
liberal que acompañó la subida espectacular de Obama.
Ella,
como él, sería la primera vez. Pero Obama por lo contrario era un desconocido.
Fue fácil votar por él por el sentido de culpabilidad del pueblo
americano, y para un liberal o un negro, a votar contra él hubiera sido inconcebible.
Pero
Hillary trae un equipaje pesado.
Ella

PICK SIX: TIME FOR MIDTERM PREDICTIONS
Happy New Year! You made it! And it’s an election year, that magical time when the aspirations and frustrations of 317 million Americans are extruded through the Play-Doh Fun Factory of electoral politics. You know how you always wanted to get that perfect star-shaped tube but always ended up with something that looked like a hairy caterpillar? It’s kind of like that. (This explains a great deal about Washington, by the way.)
So let’s get squeezing.
WHAT’S UP?
Voters will have a crack at all 435 seats in the House, 35 of 100 Senate seats, 36 of 50 governorships and a host of other state and local positions on Nov. 4. But what’s really at issue is control of the Senate. Republicans have twice failed to take the upper chamber despite considerable advantages. If Democrats hold the line again, President Obama will have a much easier time putting his agenda into place, especially given the new powers the Democratic majority granted itself to approve presidential appointments. If Republicans can retake the majority for the first time since 2005, Obama would devote much of his final two years in office vetoing legislation and fighting to get his nominees in place.
THE BASELINE
Midterm elections are generally more favorable for Republicans than quadrennial elections because Republicans are more reliable voters. The Democratic coalition depends on young and low-income voters who are harder and more expensive to mobilize without a presidential race to draw attention. All year, we’ll be tracking polls on the generic congressional ballot not because the House seems to be up for grabs, but because that’s the clearest reflection of how the partisan winds are blowing. Because of the aforementioned GOP midterm turnout advantage, Republicans can be expected to make gains if they are even close to even with Democrats in this measure. The Real Clear Politics Average shows Democrats have lost their traditional advantage in this measure and begin the year with an edge of less than a quarter point. In 2010, early polls showed Republicans in about the same place.
History says - Only once in the past century has a second-term president’s party made midterm gains, 1998 when Bill Clinton’s Democrats won five House seats and avoided any Senate losses. But Clinton was far more popular than Obama is now and the central issue – Clinton’s looming impeachment for lying about having sex with a White House intern – did not much inspire voters. More typical were the 2006 midterm, when the party in control of the White House saw six Senate seats and 31 House seats fall, and the 1986 midterm, when the president’s party lost five House seats and eight Senate seats, losing control of the upper chamber.
Timing - Armed with historical precedent, a president in the doldrums and, most significantly, deep public dissatisfaction with Obama’s health law, Republicans would appear to be in a strong position to hold the House and take the Senate. Democrats will hope that fratricidal impulses between establishment and conservative Republicans will dampen some GOP gains and that Democrats can use Team Obama’s fundraising and organization to put some Republicans on defense. The best Democratic hope is to animate base voters with narrow-cast issues like amnesty for illegal immigrants, income inequality and mandatory birth control coverage in insurance plans and then hope that Republicans are too divided to take full advantage.
Six the hard way - To gain control in the Senate, Republicans need to pick up six seats. Some gains, particularly the open seats in West Virginia and South Dakota, look strong for the GOP, so does the seat soon to be vacated by Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont. But where might the other three come from? An open seat in Michigan looks promising for Republicans, as may one in Iowa, depending on how the field pans out. But to get to the majority, Republicans will have to knock off sitting Democrats.
Class of 2008 - The election six years ago was very good for Democrats, but that means they have a lot of fat in the fire this time around. Mark Begich won in Alaska in 2008 thanks to scandal surrounding the Republican incumbent at the time and some mild pro-Obama breezes even in Sarah Palin’s home state. This time around, though, it’s looking like permafrost for Begich. Similarly, though less precariously situated are fellow freshmen Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., Kay Hagan, D-N.C., Mark Warner, D-Va., and Mark Udall, D-Colo.
Last of the Dixiecrats - Control of the Senate may well come down to two adjacent Mississippi Valley states, Arkansas and Louisiana. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., have defied gravity for years in their bright-red states. Landrieu has shown a willingness to swat back against the president, and has suggested that she too was misled by Obama’s “if you like it” pledge about health coverage and medical care when she voted for the law. Pryor, though, seems to have been caught flat-footed. In his first ad of the cycle, Pryor literally waved a Bible at viewers and reaffirms his Christian faith. Not exactly a strong start if one feels obliged to clear that up in one of the most observantly Christian states in the nation.
START WITH THE STATES
Republicans hold 29 of 50 governors’ mansions and Democrats are hoping to eliminate that margin. But we’ll be paying close attention to gubernatorial races to see which way the national trend is moving and for hints about the battle for the Senate.
Some gubernatorial contests will be gruesome. Florida’s Charlie Crist, who flamed out as a Republican in 2010, is trying for redemption as a Democrat in what promises to be a hugely expensive mud bath for the state. Incumbent Rick Scott has deep pockets and is not going to be an easy out. Another potential slime treatment for voters is the re-election bid of Pat Quinn, the Democratic governor of struggling Illinois. Quinn won narrowly in 2010 and has seen the state slide closer to fiscal oblivion in his term. The Republican field is so far promising, including state Treasurer Dan Rutherford.
Democrats will try hardest to unhorse the Rust Belt Four – Scott Walker, R-Wis., John Kasich, R-Ohio,Tom Corbett, R-Pa., and Dan Snyder, R-Mich. Those contests will have 2016 implications, particularly Wisconsin and Ohio. Some others, including the re-election bids of Susana Martinez, R-N.M., Brian Sandoval, R-Nev., and Nikki Haley, R-S.C., may have 2016 significance, too.
As Democrats wrestle with the possibility that they may have a weak 2016 frontrunner in Hillary Clinton, several of their incumbent governors will be running with a little more scrutiny. California’sJerry Brown, Colorado’s John Hickenlooper and New York’s Andrew Cuomo could all be credible candidates if Hillary capsizes. Maryland’s Martin O’Malley is also adamant that he might run for president.
O’Malley, though, like Oregon’s John Kitzhaber, Minnesota’s Mark Dayton and a few others will have some cleaning up to do over their states’ ObamaCare rollouts. Democrats, on the other hand, will try to punish Republicans who have refused to expand the welfare insurance program, Medicaid, under ObamaCare, particularly Corbett in Pennsylvania, Scott in Florida and Paul LePage in Maine. How these issues play out in swing states will instruct 2016 candidates on how to deal with the subject.
MORE About Surrogates
We’ll also be watching to see how newly re-elected Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., does at playing team ball. Surrogacy has not been his strong suit. Can Christie turn his term as chairman of the Republican Governors Association into a chance to not just raise his own profile but also build bridges with fellow Republicans skeptical of his status as the establishment press’ most-favored GOPer? Watch the campaign outings of Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal and Texas’ outgoing Rick Perry, as well. And if Jeb Bushis looking to knock the rust off, he’s got a doozy of a race going on in his own peninsula.
Democrats will also have a surrogacy test for their 2016 field, too. President Obama will be expected to raise money and stay in Washington, preferably out of sight, as Election Day draws nearer. (Red state and swing state Democrats will be chipping in greens fees to keep him on the course this summer.) But will Vice President Joe Biden be in demand on the campaign trail anywhere but deep blue states? For Biden to keep alive his claim that he could be a contender, he will need to show that someone, other than the staff members of The Onion, thinks this is a good idea.
Bill Clinton certainly will be in demand, but for the Big He, the questions are different. How much risk will he take in a year that promises to be tough for Democrats, especially when it means defending ObamaCare? How willing is his wife to have him out chewing up the campaign trail before she gets to unveil her re-re-reinvented self?
And might Hillary herself appear? The Big She could show up for a candidate that matches her new more liberal pitch and show the party’s liberal base that Hilary 4.0 isn’t triangulating. Maybe a Udall or two. Maybe Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn. Certainly some work to reinforce her leadership of the Democratic political sisterhood would set media hearts thrumming. Hey, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire doesn’t happen to have an early primary, does it?
Bill Clinton is making a big play in Arkansas, where his longtime ally Sen. Mark Pryor is facing long odds for re-election. Pryor’s vote for ObamaCare is proving toxic and with the popular Democratic incumbent Gov. Mike Beebe term-limited from another run and his lieutenant governor under pressure to resign over campaign finance violations, it looks like Democrats might be sitting this cycle out in very conservative Arkansas.

All that said, it seems at the start of this election year that the most likely path for Republicans to re-capture the Senate would run through South Dakota, West Virginia, Montana, Michigan, Iowa and Arkansas. But we’re just getting started.

Democrats will also have a surrogacy test for their 2016 field, too. President Obama will be expected to raise money and stay in Washington, preferably out of sight, as Election Day draws nearer. (Red state and swing state Democrats will be chipping in greens fees to keep him on the course this summer.) But will Vice President Joe Biden be in demand on the campaign trail anywhere but deep blue states? For Biden to keep alive his claim that he could be a contender, he will need to show that someone, other than the staff members of The Onion, thinks this is a good idea.
Bill Clinton certainly will be in demand, but for the Big He, the questions are different. How much risk will he take in a year that promises to be tough for Democrats, especially when it means defending ObamaCare? How willing is his wife to have him out chewing up the campaign trail before she gets to unveil her re-re-reinvented self?
And might Hillary herself appear? The Big She could show up for a candidate that matches her new more liberal pitch and show the party’s liberal base that Hilary 4.0 isn’t triangulating. Maybe a Udall or two. Maybe Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn. Certainly some work to reinforce her leadership of the Democratic political sisterhood would set media hearts thrumming. Hey, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire doesn’t happen to have an early primary, does it?
Bill Clinton is making a big play in Arkansas, where his longtime ally Sen. Mark Pryor is facing long odds for re-election. Pryor’s vote for ObamaCare is proving toxic and with the popular Democratic incumbent Gov. Mike Beebe term-limited from another run and his lieutenant governor under pressure to resign over campaign finance violations, it looks like Democrats might be sitting this cycle out in very conservative Arkansas.
