As
Western Journalism previously reported, a
protest planned for Friday is calling on like-minded patriots to unite in the
nation’s capital to demand the ouster of a number of politicians.
Known
as Operation American Spring, retired Army Col. Harry Riley explained that
those involved will be “calling for the removal of Barack Obama, Joe Biden,
Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi, and Eric Holder as a
start toward constitutional restoration.”
Reportedly
fashioned in the same mold as rallies like Occupy Wall Street, organizers are expecting as many as 30 million individuals to take
part.
As
a response to last month’s standoff between supporters of Nevada rancher Cliven
Bundy and federal Bureau of Land Management officers, the same group has also
announced a simultaneous demonstration near the Bundy Ranch in Bunkerville.
Events
planned by other groups in the past have failed to deliver the radical change
sought, leading Riley to suggest a new approach is needed.
“For
more than five years,” he said, “We the People have been writing, calling,
faxing Congress, the media, screaming in town halls, marching, rallying,
demonstrating, petitioning, all to no avail. Every branch of government looks
at We the People, whom they have taken an oath to serve, as pests, interfering
with their political agenda, cramping their self-serving, greedy agenda.”
He
explained that the previous efforts have culminated in what he expects to be a
major show of populist solidarity.
“Every
political persuasion, rich, poor, every color, all ages, men, women , liberal,
conservative, independent, unemployed, et al, are now mobilizing to participate
in this peaceful, non-violent, cause in the search for constitutional
restoration for America,” he concluded.
Of
course, many involved expect some level of retaliation by the targets of their
outrage. As OAS spokesperson Terry Trussell noted in a recent radio interview,
he is concerned the Obama administration could launch a drone strike on
protesters gathered in D.C.
Riley
has reportedly already received death threats, resulting in an FBI complaint
against a man calling for his execution on Facebook.

actions and nothing happens to this people. I think that this administration
has abolish accountability and is now in the DNA of the country.

Report: IRS Made Up to $15.6 Billion in Faulty EITC
Payments in 2013
The IRS made little
progress in reducing improper Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) payments last
year, doling out an estimated $13.3 billion to $15.6 billion in error,
according to a new report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax
Administration (TIGTA).
The IRS estimated
that 22 to 26 percent of all EITC payments were issued improperly in fiscal
year 2013

redistribution of wealth
I have great respect for the humility displayed by Pope Francis, but in
his latest call for the “legitimate” redistribution of wealth, he has it
backward. Instead of taking more money from those who have earned it, he should
advocate for creating new wealth.
If the money I have earned,
saved, invested and spent responsibly to care for myself and my family is
confiscated by the state (and goodness knows the state already takes a lot of
it), who is going to care for us should I retire or become incapacitated? I
can’t live on Social Security alone. What will happen to the charities to which
I now contribute? Will the government give them an equivalent amount? Where
will that money come from?
Time magazine reports that, according to the best guess of bankers,
Vatican wealth is between $10 and $15 billion. If Pope Francis is serious about
redistribution, he should lead by example and sell all Vatican property,
including its valuable artwork, empty its bank and give the money to the
Italian government, or to the United Nations.
Charity and philanthropy
are better than wealth redistribution because they create a bond between the
giver and the receiver, unlike an anonymous government check. These donations
also establish an expectation that the receiver has a moral responsibility to
use the money or services wisely and be accountable to the giver.
What happens when the giver
runs out of money? Will the receiver invest the money he has already been given
to build wealth for himself, or will he squander it and eventually end up back
where he started? And if the previously poor receiver becomes wealthy, should
he then be expected to give his money to the state and resume his previous
condition of poverty?
Redistribution, or whatever
name you give the practice, is socialism. Socialism often leads to mutually
shared poverty.
Poverty has many causes,
but there are mainly four: 1) a dictatorial governmental system that thwarts
individual initiative and liberty; 2) a religious system that oppresses people,
especially women, in the name of an angry deity who is ready to pounce on
anyone having pleasurable experiences; 3) the wrong economic system, which
stifles growth and discourages risk-taking; 4) Wrong lifestyle choices when it
comes to education, sex, marriage and crime.
The United States has tried
redistribution in Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal and Lyndon Johnson’s War on
Poverty. It doesn’t work. In fact, according to a 2014 report by the Council of
Economic Advisers, the percentage of the population in poverty declined just 16
percent between 1967 and 2012 and, in 2012, “there were 49.7 million Americans
grappling with the economic and social hardships of living below the poverty
line, including 13.4 million children.”
Redistributing America’s
poor children from their failing public schools to better ones would improve
their long-term prospects, but liberal politicians won’t let them escape for
fear of losing political contributions from teachers’ unions.
George Gilder, author of
the best seller “Wealth and Poverty,” has observed: “As Marxist despots and
tribal socialists from Cuba to Greece have discovered to their huge
disappointment, governments can neither create wealth nor effectively
redistribute it, they can only expropriate it and watch it dissipate. Under
capitalism, wealth is less a stock of goods than a flow of ideas and
information, the defining characteristic of which is surprise.”
In a speech to the heads of
major UN agencies meeting in Rome last week, Pope Francis also said about
wealth distribution: “Specifically, this involves challenging all forms of
injustices and resisting the economy of exclusion, the throwaway culture and
the culture of death which nowadays sadly risk becoming passively accepted.”
He’s right about that, but
removing barriers to the creation of wealth is a better path to elevating the
poor than penalizing the wealthy through asset confiscation.

PROBLEMA, NUNCA LA SOLUCIÓN
Hace rato que la noticia de que Pfizer
estaba en gestiones de compra de la compañía farmacéutica británica Astra
Zeneca era conocida por los que de una manera u otra están relacionados con la
industria.
Pero lo que no sabíamos era que esto se iba a convertir en una
"cause célèbre" sobre la discusión de la libertad de mercado y las
leyes antimonopolio existentes en UK y USA.
La ley antimonopolio no es una ley contra la libertad de mercado, al
contrario se hizo para proteger la libertad de mercado, para evitar que una
compañía grande pudiera controlar una industria y perjudicar controlando los
precios a los competidores y usuarios.
Pero lo que está pasando es que los
enemigos de la economía de mercado, hipócritamente están usando la ley para sus
agendas.
En este caso de la compra de Astra
Zeneca, los sindicatos británicos estás protestando para que el parlamento no
permita la venta, porque dice que se perderán empleos. Quizás se pierdan algunos empleos
administrativos, pero el hecho de que Pfizer mantendrá las plantas de
producción y de investigación y probablemente creará otras, aumentará los
trabajos. Pero es que estos
sindicalistas lo que quieren es protagonismo para ganar preponderancia en las
elecciones con los tontos que lo siguen.
Los otros protestones están aquí en
los Estados Unidos, son los que están diciendo que Pfizer escogerá pagar los
impuestos corporativos por Inglaterra porque son menores que los de los Estados
Unidos. Bueno, que buen
comerciante no haría esto. Lo
que sucede en este caso es una vitrina del problema de la fuga de corporaciones
de los Estados Unidos. Lo
que no entienden estos socialistas es que los empresarios tienen sus empresas
para ganar dinero, y eso no es nada perverso. Mientras los Estados Unidos mantengan
aumentando los impuestos corporativos, las industrias seguirán emigrando, y los
empleos se irán con ellos.
El problema no son los empresarios que
emigran y que son los que reciben la culpa, los culpables son estos políticos
liberales que no duermen pensando que impuesto van a subir.
Me alegro que esto se haya filtrado de
la industria farmacéutica al foro político, porque ahora todo el mundo está hablando

News that Pfizer, the
world's largest pharmaceutical company, plans to buy Britain's AstraZeneca for
$106 billion, renounce its U.S. citizenship and declare itself a British
company has jolted Congress. Pfizer is being denounced as disloyal to the land
of its birth, and politicians are devising ways to stop Pfizer from departing.
Yet Pfizer is not alone.
Hedge fund managers are urging giant corporations such as Walgreens to go
nation-shopping for new residences abroad to evade the 35 percent U.S.
corporate income tax.
At issue is not why
companies are fleeing the U.S. but why our politicians continue to drive them
out of the country.
If, as a nation, we are
committed to “creating jobs,” does it make sense to impose the highest
corporate tax rate in the West on our biggest and best job creators?
For years, Rep. Jack Kemp
urged the creation of enterprise zones in poor communities like Benton Harbor,
Mich., and Harlan County, Ky. Businesses that relocated there would be exempt
from corporate income taxes.
Why not make the United
States the largest enterprise zone on Earth — by abolishing the corporate
income tax?
If the corporate income tax were repealed, no
U.S. company would think of moving abroad, and every transnational company
would think about moving to the U.S.
Every U.S. company,
liberated from its corporate tax burden, would see its profits soar and have
more cash on hand for cutting prices and raising wages. And every company that
relocated here would create new U.S. jobs.
Many politicians seem to
think the corporate tax punishes the rich and powerful and is an indispensable
weapon in reducing inequality and redistributing wealth. This is neosocialist
myth.
As Ronald Reagan used to
say, corporations don't pay taxes — people do.
The billions in corporate
income taxes paid by Wal-Mart and McDonald's come out of the dollars spent by
consumers who shop at Wal-Mart and eat at McDonald's. Middle America pays the
corporate income tax.
How could we make up for
the lost revenue to government? Simple. The corporate income tax last year
produced $273 billion, less than a 10th of federal revenue. Imports, which kill
U.S. jobs and subtract from GDP, totaled $2.7 trillion last year.
Put a 10 percent tariff on
imports, and the abolition of the U.S. corporate income tax becomes a
revenue-neutral proposal.
Consider what our political
class has done to our once self-sufficient American republic. We impose on
businesses, our principal job creators, the most punitive corporate tax rate in
the West. Through “free trade,” we tell U.S. companies that if they wish to
avoid our taxes and get around our minimum wage, health, safety and environmental
laws, they can move to China, produce there and bring their products back free
of charge — and kill their competitors too patriotic to leave America.
“The Decline and Fall of
the United States of America” is going to be a piece of cake for future
historians to write.

Tom Steyer: The Leftist billionaire responsible for
the Keystone XL pipeline delay
The Obama
administration announced on Friday that a
final decision regarding the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline has once again
been delayed. According to both the White House and Debbie Wasserman Schultz,
there was no
politics behind the decision to delay.
Actually, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Many of you probably don’t know the name Tom Steyer.
Steyer is a left-wing San Francisco billionaire former hedge fun manager, a
radical environmentalist. He’s promised progressives $100 million for key
congressional races this fall — so long
as Obama doesn’t move forward with the Keystone pipeline:
Billionaire hedge fund operator and “green”
energy magnate Tom Steyer has pledged $100 million in the 2014 election cycle
to help Democratic candidates who oppose the Keystone pipeline and who favor
“green” energy over fossil fuels. Steyer claims to be a man of principle who
has no financial interest in the causes he supports, but acts only for the
public good. That is a ridiculous claim: Steyer is the ultimate rent-seeker who
depends on government connections to produce subsidies and mandates that make
his “green” energy investments profitable. He also is, or was until recently,
a major
investor in Kinder Morgan, which is building a competitor
to the Keystone pipeline. Go here, here, here, here, here and here for
more information about how Steyer uses his political donations and consequent
connections to enhance his already vast fortune.
But Steyer’s hypocrisy goes still
deeper. Today, he is a bitter opponent of fossil fuels, especially coal. That
fits with his current economic interests: banning coal-fired power plants will
boost the value of his solar projects. But it was not always thus. In fact,
Steyer owes his fortune in large part to the fact that he has been one of the
world’s largest financers of coal projects. Tom Steyer was for coal before he
was against it.
Where does the Left get off demonizing the Koch
brothers while Obama allows Steyer to control the fate of thousands of American
jobs for his own deceitful, selfish, hypocritical purpose?
The hypocrisy of this administration is already
clearly evident and well documented. Just at the Left wants to shame the Kochs,

As
Western Journalism previously reported, a
protest planned for Friday is calling on like-minded patriots to unite in the
nation’s capital to demand the ouster of a number of politicians.
Known
as Operation American Spring, retired Army Col. Harry Riley explained that
those involved will be “calling for the removal of Barack Obama, Joe Biden,
Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi, and Eric Holder as a
start toward constitutional restoration.”
Reportedly
fashioned in the same mold as rallies like Occupy Wall Street, organizers are expecting as many as 30 million individuals to take
part.
As
a response to last month’s standoff between supporters of Nevada rancher Cliven
Bundy and federal Bureau of Land Management officers, the same group has also
announced a simultaneous demonstration near the Bundy Ranch in Bunkerville.
Events
planned by other groups in the past have failed to deliver the radical change
sought, leading Riley to suggest a new approach is needed.
“For
more than five years,” he said, “We the People have been writing, calling,
faxing Congress, the media, screaming in town halls, marching, rallying,
demonstrating, petitioning, all to no avail. Every branch of government looks
at We the People, whom they have taken an oath to serve, as pests, interfering
with their political agenda, cramping their self-serving, greedy agenda.”
He
explained that the previous efforts have culminated in what he expects to be a
major show of populist solidarity.
“Every
political persuasion, rich, poor, every color, all ages, men, women , liberal,
conservative, independent, unemployed, et al, are now mobilizing to participate
in this peaceful, non-violent, cause in the search for constitutional
restoration for America,” he concluded.
Of
course, many involved expect some level of retaliation by the targets of their
outrage. As OAS spokesperson Terry Trussell noted in a recent radio interview,
he is concerned the Obama administration could launch a drone strike on
protesters gathered in D.C.
Riley
has reportedly already received death threats, resulting in an FBI complaint
against a man calling for his execution on Facebook.
