As Iraq violence grows, US sends more
intelligence officers
(Reuters) - The United States is quietly expanding the number of intelligence
officers in Iraq and holding
urgent meetings in Washington and Baghdad to find ways to counter growing
violence by Islamic militants, U.S. government sources said.
A high-level
Pentagon team is now in Iraq to assess possible assistance for Iraqi forces in
their fight against radical jihadists from the Islamic State of Iraq and the
Levant (ISIL), a group reconstituted from an earlier incarnation of al Qaeda,
said two current government officials and one former U.S. official familiar
with the matter.
The powerful ISIL,
which seeks to impose strict sharia law in the Sunni majority populated regions
of Iraq, now boasts territorial influence stretching from Iraq's western Anbar
province to northern Syria, operating in some areas close to Baghdad, say U.S.
officials.
Senior U.S. policy
officials, known as the "Deputies Committee," met in Washington this
week to discuss possible responses to the deteriorating security outlook in
Iraq, said a government source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of
the sensitivity of the subject matter.
The source did not
know the outcome of the meeting.
White House
spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan declined to comment.
The meetings
underscore how Iraq's instability is posing a new foreign policy challenge for
PresidentBarack
Obama, who celebrated the
withdrawal of U.S. troops more than two years ago. Despite the concern,
officials said it remains unclear whether Obama will commit significant new
resources to the conflict.
Four months after Iraqi
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki declared war on Sunni militants in Iraq's western
Anbar province, the fighting has descended into brutal atrocities, often caught
on video and in photographs by both militants and Iraqi soldiers.
Iraqi soldiers say
they are bogged down in a slow, vicious fight with ISIL and other Sunni
factions in the city of Ramadi and around nearby Falluja.
LIMITED OPTIONS
One former and two
current U.S. security officials said the number of U.S. intelligence personnel
in Baghdad had already begun to rise but that the numbers remained relatively
small.
"It's more
than before, but not really a lot," said one former official with
knowledge of the matter.
Much of the
pressure to do more is coming from the U.S. military, the former official said,
but it is unclear if the White House wants to get more deeply involved.
After ending nearly
nine years of war in Iraq, the United States has limited military options
inside the country. About 100 U.S. military personnel remain, overseeing
weapons sales and cooperation with Iraqi security forces.
The U.S. government
has rushed nearly 100 Hellfire missiles, M4 rifles, surveillance drones and 14
million rounds of ammunition to the Iraqi military since January, U.S.
officials said. The Obama administration has also started training Iraqi
special forces in neighboring Jordan.
Before the U.S.
military withdrew, it trained, equipped and conducted operations with Iraqi
special forces.
Staff from the
Pentagon's Central Command are working closely with the Iraqi military but have
advised it against launching major operations due to concerns Iraqi forces are
not prepared for such campaigns, the former U.S. official said.
In Anbar, militants
have a major presence in Falluja, while in Ramadi there is a stalemate, with
territory divided among Iraqi government forces, ISIL and other Sunni armed
groups.
In testimony before
the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee in February, Brett
McGurk, the State Department's top official on Iraq, described how convoys of
up to 100 trucks, mounted with heavy weapons and flying al Qaeda flags, moved
into Ramadi and Falluja on New Year's Day.
Local forces in
Ramadi subsequently succeeded in pushing militants back, but the situation in
Falluja remained "far more serious," McGurk said.

Hoy voy a escribir de cosas intrascendentes, de cosas que muchos
conocen , que se olvidan y con el tiempo no tienen validez alguna,
se convierten en BOBERIAS, que no le interesan a nadie.
Increíblemente muchos viven y viven bien de hablar la clásica bobería y lo más curioso, nadie está exento de este pecadillo. Hasta las grandes figuras de vez en cuando hablan boberías. Recientemente ese gran escritor Vargas Llosa, un talento de las letras, afirmo solemnemente que ""EL PUEBLO VENEZOLANO SE EQUIVOVO CON LA ELECCION DE
CHAVEZ", se puede ser el mejor escritor del mundo y no saber nada de política. Con todo respeto al Sr, Vargas LLosa y al periodista estrella del Nuevo Herald, Openheimmer:
Los pueblos no se equivocan, los enganan miserablemente los politicos con el apoyo de los medios de comunicacion . Y la historia se repite y repite. No se acuerdan de Cuba, la revista Bohemia con una campana ficticia de 20 000 muertos, con el apoyo de la prensa, del radio, la tv.
Y con el respaldo irrestricto del New York Times, sin dejar fuera a Vargas LLosa. Todos anunciaban al mundo, la llegada del Mesias Fidel Castro que iba a salvar a Cuba y al Mundo. Todavia no sabemos, salvar de que?
Y que me dicen de Barak, una estrella, contruida por los medios, me imagino que a estas alturas nadie lo duda. Un engano verdaderamente professional y muy bien planificado. En el manejo de los medios y de la publicidad, en este pais estan los mejores. Te canonizan o te destruyen, lo que mas beneficio les de. Y muy importante, la justicia divina, se inclina de acuerdo a tu militancia. No es lo mismo un republicano que un democrata.

Hablando de BOBERIAS, que rollo se ha formado con los libros de textos venezolanos, que segun se dicen quieren modificar la historia, con la intro- duccion de una nodriza cubana amamantando al Libertador.
Les confieso que esta noticia me sorprende, desde los anos "80, casi la totalidad de los libros de textos venezolanos, se editan e imprimen en Cuba, buscando costos muy baratos.
La editora hermanos "BADELL" propiedad de Juan y Manuel Badell, situada en Puerto Cabello, muy vinculada a la Causa R, ha sido la empresa que ha financiado operaciones millonarias con Cuba de impresion de libros. Y ademas, aprovechando sus estrechos vinculos, con los gobernantes cubanos, le abrio la puerta grande a muchos politicos simpatizantes de los Castro.
Fueron muchos, los que fueron a Cuba, Jose Vicente, Ali Rodriguez, Pablo Medina, Aristobulo, Andres Velazquez, Roger Capella, y muchos mas. Ahora los veo en la mesa de dialogo, pero en bandos distintos.
Pero lo mas interesante, es que muchos enviaron a sus hijos a estudiar a Cuba.

Como soy cubano y hablando del Libertador, me gustaria que los medios comentaran, en vez de entrenerse con la Nodriza cubana, y analizaran la negativa del Libertador, de apoyar la liberacion de las 2 ultimas colonias de America, Cuba y Puerto Rico. Nos condeno a continuar siendo Colonias por muchos anos. Este tema si me interesa. Quiero aprender.
Cambiando el tema, voy a referirme
al GABO, del que tanto se ha hablado y escrito en los ultimos dias.
Sin dudas, nos encontramos ante uno de los grandes escritores de la lengua
espanola. Sus libros, creo estar seguro, que me los he leido todos.
Aunque confieso, que mi escritor preferido es Alejo Carpentier, no puedo
cambiar, soy chovinista. El mio primero. Su obra el Siglo de las
luces, la considero junto al Quijote, lo maximo de la literatura
en habla hispana.
Me voy a referir brevemente a las
correrias del Gabo en La Habana, hay algunos ilusos que lo consideran
"el gran amigo de Fidel". Aunque parezca increible, hay todavia
quien crea en la BOBERIA de que Fidel tiene amigos. Fidel no cree ,
ni confia nadie, que no sea el, asi lo demues- tran mas de 50 anos en el
ejercicio del Poder Absoluto. Analicen la historia, su entorno, Fidel utiliza a
todos en funcion de sus intereses y cuando lo cree necesario, sencillamente los
desecha.
Gabo fue utilizado por Fidel, en
funcion de sus intereses de imagen, y le daba el beneficio de una amistad que
permitia liberar presos politicos.
Cuentos de camino. Fidel le
pagaba el apoyo, sobre todo con una Casa de Protocolo, montada con todas las de
la ley del buen vivir, que en la practica era un palacio del sexo, donde Gabo
podia satisfacer todas sus aberraciones con jovenes estudiantes, incluso el
lesbianismo que era tan aficionado. Todo con una proteccion oficial. Esta
es la verdad, aunque a muchos no les guste. Se dice la verdad,
aunque moleste, o continuamos 100 anos mas en Macondo hablando BOBERIAS.
Del Gabo en La Habana, hay mucho que
hablar, seria muy extenso,
las anecdotas son muchas. Vale
la pena en su momento escribirlas.
Solo una mencion,
-Como conoce Fidel a Gabo, debido a
que Alfredo Guevara y Gabo se habian conocido en Paris. Guevara le presenta el
Gabo a Fidel.
-La donacion de Gabo, de la Escuela
de Cine., de San Antonio de los Banos. Hay mucho de que hablar.
-El robo del reloj de oro del Gabo,
que le costo el puesto a Melendez el jefe de Protocolo.
-La discussion publica entre
el Gabo y Silvio Rodriguez. Fidel de arbitro.
-Las visitas de Fidel y Gabo a las
Fabricas de Helados Copelia y de
de Queso Cammerber. Son historicas.
-Las recetas de cocina que Fidel
elaboraba con Gabo. El azafran,
las trufas. el carey y muchas mas.
Historias sorprendentes. No se
tiene idea de los costos de estas
recetas. Ni la más remota idea
se los aseguro.
-Como pagaba el Gabo sus
cuentas? Autografiando botellas de
Ron Havana Club., para que fueran
vendidas y comercializadas
como souvenirs.
Pero un tema poco comentado,
era la aficion de GABO a la politica internacional, un momento estelar
fue cuando estuvo en el centro
de coordinacion de una reunion
historica de CLINTON - FIDEL con el apoyo de Salinas de
Gottari. Como todos saben, el derribo de las avionetas dio al traste
con este encuentro.
Hasta donde llegaban estas
relaciones, que la empresa cubana
Treviso , radicada en Panama, habia
adquirido en Monterrey
una finca de unas 500 ha muy cerca
de la residencia del GABO.
Era una de las opciones, por si
Fidel tenia que abandoner el poder,
seria vecino de GABO.
En Cuba se comentaba mucho, las
horas y horas, que ambos se pasaban reunidos en las Oficinas
de Fidel y/o en La casa de protocolo de Gabo.
Hay un gran anecdotario de esas
relaciones que para mi tenian
un contenido enfermizo. No
entendia, ni entiendo, como 2 hombres podian pasar tanto tiempo juntos en la
BOBERIA.
Antes de terminar, quiero referirme
a la muerte de un grande del
deporte cubano, el guajiro Conrado
Marrero, de niño lo conoci
cuando era un asiduo al dogout del
Almendares, mi tio Manolo
era el masajista del equipo.
Despues Marrero era vecino mio.
Se ha escrito mucho de la grandeza
deportiva de Marrero, lo
que no se ha dicho es la miseria que
vivia esta Gloria del deporte.
La ultima vez que vi a Marrero, fue
a finales de 1980, con casi 80
anos, trabajaba como peon,
estibador, limpieza, en el puesto de viandas ubicado en la Calle Ermita,
esquina a 3ra. en Ayesteran, daba pena verlo. Cuando me vio, me quiso
vender en 10 us/d una pelota que le habia autografiado Ted Williams, el dia que
lo poncho, con 3 strikes seguidos. Marrero le pidió la pelota al Umpire, y se
la dio a Ted para que se la firmara. Lo que paso, después también es historia, Ted le dio a Marrero un
home run de mas de 400 pies. Y Ted pidió la pelota para que Marrero se la
firmara,
Desgraciadamente estas son las
historias de nuestras glorias
deportivas, que no interesan, ahora
el tema es Yasel Puig, y
los millones. Marrero tuvo que
morir para que lo recordaran.
Ahora el Herald, [cito
literalmente] habla de edificarle un altar,
no se quienes le irán a
rendir adoración. Mejor sería un Busto a la
entrada del Stadium.
No se preocupen mucho, las BOBERIAS
siguen, lo mismo por el radio, por la prensa, que por la tv. La
suerte es que a veces entretienen.

BOBERIAS, le interesen alguien.
