Es parte de las acusaciones resultantes del desmantelamiento de la unidad contra la corrupción pública
MIAMI 22 DE AGOSTO DE 2013, nhr.com—Indiscutiblemente este verano está resultando más que caliente para el alcalde de Miami-Dade, Carlos Giménez, pero al decir de muchos, está siendo él, con una tras otra acción equivocada o fuera de lugar, quien hace que el termómetro de la calle está a punto de explotar.
Entre los comentarios críticos al alcalde, lo que ha cobrado más atención y creado peor malestar es el desmantelamiento de la Unidad Anticorrupción de la Policía de Miami-Dade. Y entre las opiniones más arrasadoras figura una de una fuente muy conocedora de los trajines de la política local. “El alcalde Carlos Giménez podría ser sacado del cargo por violación de la carta constitutiva del Condado” nos dijo.
De acuerdo con esta fuente, el subdirector de la policía condal, Juan Pérez, le admitió a los medios de prensa que aunque el oficial Luis Rodríguez es un buen investigador, la decisión de transferirlo se debía en parte a su participación en la campaña política de Joe Martínez, quien aspiró sin éxito contra Giménez el pasado año 2012.
Luis Rodríguez, un veterano de 29 años con la Policía de Miami-Dade, fue repentinamente trasladado de la Unidad Anticorrupción Pública donde se había destacado por el volumen de casos que había manejado exitosamente, entonces el decidió retirarse.
Nuestra fuente indicó que “la carta constitutiva del condado señala que un empleado no puede ser rebajado de cargo, de rango o trasladado a un departamento inferior, por haber apoyado a un candidato contrario al alcalde o comisionado”, y nos añadió que “eso es corrupción, no es ético y es una actitud inapropiada”.
El subdirector Juan Pérez refiriéndose al detective Luis Rodríguez le declaró al Miami Herald que Rodríguez no infringió normas departamentales pero que se trataba de una actividad “inapropiada” para un investigador de corrupción pública. “No podemos ser una unidad de corrupción pública, investigar a los políticos y también trabajar en sus campañas”, dijo Pérez.
Existen otros casos como este, que NHR.com está investigando; agentes que han sido castigados por el solo hecho de haber apoyado al contrario de Giménez en las pasadas elecciones.
Giménez le declaró al periodista René Pedrosa, de América TeVe, que a él no le importaban las investigaciones, “que investiguen lo que quieran, que saquen lo que saquen”, dijo un Giménez irritado, calificando a John Rivera, que preside el sindicato de Policía de ser una persona que siempre está en su contra, y a Luis Rodríguez, uno que apoyó a su contrincante Joe Martínez.
Por su parte, el periodista Enrique Flor, hablando en el programa A Mano Limpia, en América TeVe, dijo que el vió a las boleteras de Hialeah varias veces junto con Giménez, y que era significante que al ser descubierto un fraude “masivo y grosero” de boletas ausentes, luego se haya desmantelado la unidad policiaca que investigaba precisamente la corrupción política.

Se asegura que están al salir revelaciones interesantes relacionadas con el desmantelemiento de esa unidad policiaca de Miami-Dade
MIAMI, 21 DE AGOSTO DE 2013, NHR.com—Dándole seguimiento a la información ofrecida ayer sobre la desmantelacion de la Unidad Anti Corrupción (CCU) de la policía de Miami-Dade, creada para investigar la corrupción pública, podemos informar que agentes del Buro Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) están revisando los archivos que les entregaron detectives que han sido trasladados de CCU a otras unidades de la policía.
“Esta es la única opción que nos quedaba”, nos dijo uno de los agentes con el que conversamos y quien nos dijo que ellos comenzaron a sospechar que la Unidad seria desmantelada cuando se sorprendió a la boletera de Hialeah, Daisy Cabrera, vinculada a la campaña de Carlos Giménez, y ésta nos llevó a otros implicados, como es el caso de Jerry Ramos, empleado de Al Lorenzo, que a su vez asesoraba las campañas de Giménez y la fiscal Katherine Fernández Rundle.
Lorenzo se retiró de de la campaña de Giménez una semana después de que la boletera Daisy Cabrera fuera detenida por cargos de fraude de boleta de votante ausente, ella había trabajado con Lorenzo en campañas anteriores.
La fiscal Fernández Rundle se retiró de la investigación en medio de acusaciones de que Lorenzo tenía relación de trabajo con Cabrera. Lorenzo siempre a negado su vinculación a la boletera.
“Giménez no quiere que se investigue la corrupción” dice el presidente del sindicato de la policía John Rivera.
El agente con el que hablamos en NHR.com en las últimas horas nos dijo que sus funciones dentro de la Unidad Anti Corrupción ya se estaban haciendo prácticamente insostenibles. “Hacíamos tremendas investigaciones, con evidencias y hasta fotos, y cuando se las presentábamos a la fiscalía, nos las bloqueaban”.
Una de las víctimas del desmantelamiento de la Unidad Anticorrupción es el experimentado detective Luis Rodríguez, quien según nuestras fuentes fue castigado por el alcalde Carlos Giménez porque Rodríguez apoyó al excomisionado Joe Martínez, quien fue el contrario de Giménez en las elecciones por laalcaldía condal. Rodríguez decidió renunciar y está siendo asesorado por un conocido abogado de Miami.
Nuestras fuentes dentro de la disidencia policiaca de CCU, nos dicen que “son muchas la ataduras que existen entre la oficina del alcalde Carlos Giménez y la fiscal Fernández Rundle; son los mismos personajes los que corren sus campañas y ellos los protegen”, nos dicen.

Article 2, Sec. 3 of the Constitution charges the President "shall take care that the Laws be faithfully executed." It doesn't say that he "should" execute the laws of the United States; it uses the imperative "shall."
Nor, does the Constitution say that the President can pick and choose to enforce some of the laws, or just the ones he likes.
Nor, does the Constitution give the President the authority to create new laws. Article 1, Sec. 1 is clear on that point; "All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives."
But for Barack Obama the limits of the Constitution matter very little; particularly so the separation of powers that the Founders crafted as a check-and-balance against an unhealthy concentration of power in one branch of the government. In fact, Obama has publicly derided the Constitution as a "charter of negative liberties" and pledged to work to "break free from the essential constraints placed by the Founding Fathers."
In a recent column Charles Krauthammer addressed the issue of a President who "writes his own laws." Krauthammer affixes the title befitting of the President's lawless nature: "Caudillo in Chief." After a litany of grievances as examples document his assertions, Krauthammer concludes:
Such gross executive usurpation disdains the Constitution. It mocks the separation of powers. And most consequentially, it introduces a fatal instability into law itself. If the law is not what is plainly written, but is whatever the president and his agents decide, what's left of the law?
What's the point of the whole legislative process — of crafting various provisions through give-and-take negotiation — if you cannot rely on the fixity of the final product, on the assurance that the provisions bargained for by both sides will be carried out?
Consider immigration reform. The essence of any deal would be legalization in return for strict border enforcement. If some such legislative compromise is struck, what confidence can anyone have in it — if the president can unilaterally alter what he signs?
Yet this president is not only untroubled by what he's doing, but open and rather proud. As he tells cheering crowds on his never-ending campaign-style tours: I am going to do X — and I'm not going to wait for Congress.
That's caudillo talk. That's banana republic stuff. In this country, the president is required to win the consent of Congress first.
At stake is not some constitutional curlicue. At stake is whether the laws are the law. And whether presidents get to write their own.
The editors at Investor's Business Daily picked up on the issue, too. Following is what they call "just a small sampling" of a "Lengthy Legacy of Lawlessness."
Aug. 14, 2013: The Obama administration delayed the provision in ObamaCare to cap out-of-pocket health care costs, picking and choosing parts of the law to enforce, which is to exceed its authority.
July 17, 2013: The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals joined the federal appeals courts in D.C. and Philadelphia in ruling President Obama's National Labor Relations Board recess appointments — who by law must be approved by Congress — were unconstitutional. Thus far, the president has ignored the ruling.
July 1, 2013: The Obama administration unilaterally decided to delay the employer mandate provision of ObamaCare for a year, which is to provide information to the feds about the extent of an applicant's insurance. Never mind that the law states the mandate must go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014 — they are now relying on the "honor system" from applicants to determine if they are qualified for subsidies.
June 25, 2013: The Supreme Court ruled in Shelby County v. Eric Holder that Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act is "unconstitutional" and that "the formula can no longer be used as a basis for subjecting jurisdiction to preclearance." Instead of complying with the ruling, Holder filed suit to order Texas to submit to preclearance, in defiance of Congress' authority to legislate and the Supreme Court's authority to rule on the constitutionality of the law.
June 15, 2012: The Obama administration announced it will stop deporting illegal immigrants under the age of 30 in a "deferred action" policy to circumvent immigration laws. This comes after Congress rejected a similar measure about a year ago. Since then, more than 500,000 illegals have received the deferment and only 20,000 have been rejected. As for the law-abiding applicants who have been waiting in line, well, that's Obama's idea of "lawfulness."
May 20, 2013: A Washington Post article revealed that Fox News reporter James Rosen was investigated by the DOJ, which subpoenaed his phone records and emails in direct contravention of the First Amendment under the pretense of a leak investigation.
May 13, 2013: AP reported the DOJ secretly collected phone records of AP reporters and editors, a move completely outside the realm of law. Even the AP — which up until then had been pretty submissive to the Obama agenda — was appalled by the breach.
May 10, 2013: The IRS revealed it targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status beginning in March 2010, a direct targeting of political opponents through the tax laws. It's one of the crimes that led Congress to impeach President Nixon.
May 3, 2011: When asked when he first heard of Operation Fast and Furious, Attorney General Eric Holder falsely testified, "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks." Head of the National Drug Intelligence Center Michael Walther told Holder about Fast and Furious in a July 2010 memo. Subsequent revelations showed he knew all along.
March 27, 2012: EPA issued final rules regulating greenhouse gas emissions on electric utilities that require power plants to use nonexisting carbon capture-and-control technology to meet new emission standards, in defiance of the Congress' rejection of cap-and-trade legislation.

March 1, 2011: Attorney General Holder lied to Congress, saying "decisions made in the New Black Panther Party case were made by career attorneys in the department." Associate A.G. Thomas Perrelli, an Obama political appointee, overruled a unanimous recommendation for prosecution by DOJ attorneys.
Feb. 3, 2010: Judge Martin Feldman held the Obama administration in contempt for re-imposing an offshore drilling moratorium that was struck down by the courts.

Alerta a los automovilistas que pasan por los T0LLS-GATE.
EXHORTAMOS; En primer lugar a todos los ciudadanos del CONDADO DE MIAMI DADE y en segundo lugar a todos automovilistas que también pasan por los TALLS de las autopistas 836 y 112, que le soliciten a los Alcaldes y Comisionados, no solo de este Condado, sino también a los de Miami Beach y de la ciudad de Miami, que le exijan a la comisión no electa y encargada, atender, controlar y recibir las recaudaciones de estos Talls, no permitirle que construyan nuevos Talls, ni aumentar el precio del peaje de los ya existentes.
Además la comisión no ha fundamentado económicamente, las razones que justifiquen, las construcciones de nuevos Talls ni el aumento del precio del Peaje, que respalden tales acciones que perjudican a tantas personas.
Además es necesario que se tengan en cuentan estos argumentos;
1.-Cual es la razón del aumento sistemático del cobro del Peaje y la construcción de
nuevos Talls.?.
2.-Yo pregunto; Donde están los $1,225.3 millones de dólares, recaudados en los
Últimos 3 años..?
3.-Recuerden que las ampliaciones actuales de las autopistas, se supone que son de las recaudación millonaria del ½ centavo a las compras, propuesto y aprobado durante el periodo en que fue Alcalde el Sr. Penelas.
4.-Exhortamos además, que la Prensa escrita, radial y Televisiva, así como las organizaciones de periodistas, respalden esta justa petición, para aclarar esta actitud de la comisión que administra y controla la recaudación del dinero del peaje, logre sus injustas
peticiones.
5.-También exhortamos a la Fiscalía , a que realice una investigación de los $3,902.3 millones de dólares, que fueron gastados por la comisión, en estos 3 últimos años.

Rep. Ros-Lehtinen: Administration's Handling of Benghazi 'Unconscionable'

By Cathy Burke and Kathleen Walter The Obama administration's callous handling of the 2012 attack on the embassy in Benghazi has been "unconscionable," Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen tells Newsmax TV in an exclusive interview.
"It is unconscionable for this whole administration to have called that . . . a phony scandal," the congresswoman said. "There's nothing phony about the deaths of four innocent American lives."
She said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton merely "reshuffled the deck of chairs on the Titanic" with her demotion of four State employees in the wake of the tragedy.
"And now they're back," she said. "It is unbelievable. No one has paid a price at all for the terrorist attacks in Benghazi resulting in the deaths of four American citizens, including our ambassador."
Ros-Lehtinen said she wholeheartedly supports the appointment of a select committee to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012 attack — and charged the administration's "intimidation" has kept Congress from learning the truth.
"We have seen that they've kept witnesses away from us," she said. "There's a feeling of intimidation in the State Department and throughout the agencies. 'Don't come forward, don't come testify, you will suffer, your career will suffer.'"
She charges it was the administration's "false narrative," that fostered the fear.
"They want to convince the people . . . that these radical Islamic terrorists are not out to destroy Israel and the United States," she said. "That was a political agenda and it was a political response to a real security threat and that's why this level of intimidation continues throughout this administration."
The administration generally has no coherent anti-terrorism policy, she added.
"The Obama administration believes that having a drone policy is a solution," she said.
"That is not a military readiness capability and in 10 years, in 15 years down the road we're going to be paying the price for not being . . . military ready in the way that we should be.
She also decried the Obama administration's previous support of Egypt President Mohammed Morsi and said the U.S. should cut off aid and "stop pouring money down a rat hole."
"This administration has tried to sell the American public on this philosophy that the Muslim Brotherhood, they're made up of all kinds of people and individuals and there's just not one guiding philosophy," she said. " Oh there is a guiding philosophy and it's anti-US, it's anti-democracy, it's anti-Christian, and it's anti-female, and it's anti-everybody who doesn’t agree with their dogma.
"So we should cut off the spigot. It's time to stop the money drain that we're just wasting our money giving it to governments that don't support democracy."
Ros-Lehtinen, chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on North Africa and Middle East, said as far as diplomacy goes, Kerry is clueless.
"His Department of State is concentrating on a peace treaty between Israelis and Palestinians at the expense of everything else," she said. "The Israeli-Palestinian peace issue is an important issue but not when the whole Middle East and North Africa is blowing up.
On the contentious issue of immigration, Ros-Lehtinen said she's "cautiously optimistic" for passage of a reform bill.
"If we do nothing, what we're accepting is the status quo and the status quo is that we have over 11million people here who already are illegally here and that is a form of amnesty," she said, adding that securing the nation's borders are a "number one" priority.
But she said the nation must also respond to the "dreamers" who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children by creating a bill that would allow them to become citizens, serve in the military, and go to universities.
The congresswoman insisted Republicans are increasingly in support of immigration reform.

On the healthcare front, Ros-Lehtinen said the Affordable Care Act is sure to be "an economic disaster," noting she voted "40 times to defund, dismantle Obamacare." But she said she hoped Congress would find a way to stop the health law without a government shutdown.
"People don't want the government to shut down but, at the same time, there's a great sense of anxiety in our small business community and young people who are going to be paying a lot of money for their insurance premiums," she said.
The Cuban native said she's still hopeful Democracy will come to the island nation, but blasted the administration for the "windfall" they have allowed there.
"They don't deserve the breaks that the Obama administration is giving them," she said.
"It's been a windfall for the Castro regime these years that Obama has been president. What a shame. Democracy is going to come but it's going to come because we're going to get tough on the regime and help the Cuban people rid themselves of this dictatorship."

Born out of the Great Depression, Social Security is a\) a socialist-styled government giveaway costing billions, or b\) a well-thought-out retirement plan for aging citizens, paid mostly with their contributions.
Either way, the program has been a source of controversy since the beginning.
But what is the truth behind Social Security? What was it meant to do and how has it changed over the years? CNBC explains.
What is Social Security?
Social Security is a mandatory retirement system established in 1935 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. It is run by the Social Security Administration, or SSA, based in Woodlawn, Maryland, just outside Baltimore.
The agency includes 10 regional offices, eight processing centers, some 1,300 field offices, and 37 Teleservice Centers. About 62,000 people work for the SSA.
The Social Security Act—as it is formally known—was created out of the devastating effects from the Great Depression. Millions of Americans lost their jobs, savings disappeared and the elderly were often left without a source of income.
The SSA provides benefits to retirees and disabled workers.
It is a “pay-as-you-go” program in which current workers fund benefits for current retirees and disabled Americans. In most cases, a worker must have 10 years of covered employment to be eligible for retirement benefits.
In 2011, there are an estimated 56 million people receiving Social Security benefitsand 158 million workers paying into the system.
The act has expanded over the years, as we'll see later. It also gives money to states to provide assistance to Aid to Families with Dependent Children, Maternal and Child Welfare, public health services, and the blind.
How is Social Security funded?
Workers and employers pay for Social Security—in fact, both are required to pay Social Security taxes.
In 1935, the amount employers and workers paid was a combined 2 percent payroll tax on the first $3,000 of a worker's income.
As of 2011, workers paid 6.2 percent of their earnings into Social Security—up to an income of $106,800 a year. After workers hit that income level, taxes are no longer deducted.
Employers pay a matching amount, for a combined contribution of 12.4 percent of earnings.
Self-employed persons have to pay both the employee and employer share—for a total 12.4 percent.
Another source of funds comes from higher-income Social Security beneficiaries, who pay federal income taxes on their benefit income.
One important note: Social Security is not technically part of the federal budget. It never has been. In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson included Social Security for the first time in a "unified federal budget" as part of an effort to end confusion over budgetary procedures.
It was taken 'off budget' by 1986—meaning its balance sheet is not technically part of the overall federal budget.
However, those involved in federal budget matters often produce two sets of numbers, one without Social Security included in the budget totals and one with it included.
How are benefits calculated?
This is not the easiest of math problems to solve, as even the SSA admits.
Social Security benefits are based on a worker's lifetime earnings. Out of entire earnings from age 22 to 62, the highest 35 years of indexed earnings are used in the computation.
Actual earnings are adjusted or "indexed" to account for changes in wages since the first year of work.
The purpose for indexing earnings is to make sure benefits reflect the rise in the standard of living that took place during a worker's lifetime. Benefit increases are based on annual cost of living allowances—what's referred to as a COLA.
The average monthly Social Security benefit for a retired worker was about $1,177 at the beginning of 2011, according to the SSA.
The SSA had send out by mail twice a year estimated benefits recipients would get. However, in a recent cost cutting move, that mailing has stopped.

Are Social Security benefits taxed?
Yes. Until 1984, Social Security benefits were exempt from taxes. But in 1983, Congress made up to 50% of Social Security benefits taxable for higher-income beneficiaries; and in 1993, up to 85% was made taxable.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, about 40% of beneficiaries are impacted by the tax.
But the taxes collected are credited to the Social Security Trust Funds and the Medicare Hospital Insurance Trust Fund and not used for the Federal budget.
What is the Social Security Trust Fund?
Actually, there are twotrust funds to handle surpluses in the program. Both were started in 1939.
The Social Security Trust Funds are: the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) and the Disability Insurance (DI) Trust Funds. These funds are accounts managed by the Department of the Treasury.
They serve two purposes: they provide an accounting mechanism for tracking all income to and out of the trust funds—and most importantly, they hold the accumulated assets.
Social Security surpluses are, by law, invested in U.S. Treasury securities. When payroll taxes exceed benefits in a particular year, the surpluses are used to buy securities which are held by the Trust Funds.
The Trust Funds earn interest, which is set at the average market yield on long-term Treasury securities. Interest earnings on the invested assets of the combined OASI and DI Trust Funds were $2.6 trillion by 2010.
So far, there have been 11 years in which the Social Security program did not take in enough FICA taxes to pay the current year's benefits.During that time, Trust Fund bonds in the amount of about $24 billion made up the difference.
Social Security’s costs will grow in coming years as the large Baby Boom generation— those born between 1946 and 1964—move into their retirement years. The trust funds would then be exhausted by 2037 without changes to the system.
What age do you have to be to collect Social Security?
The first checks went to those who reached age 65, though early retirement at 62 would bring limited benefits, with a permanent reduction to 80 percent of the full benefit amount.
But the age has increased. In 2010, the full benefit age became 66 for people born in 1943-1954, and it will gradually rise to 67 for those born in 1960 or later.
Early retirement benefits will continue to be available at age 62, but they will be reduced more.
When the full-benefit age reaches 67, benefits taken at age 62 will be reduced to 70 percent of the full benefit and benefits first taken at age 65 will be reduced to 86.7 percent of the full benefit.
What are the origins of Social Security in the U.S.?
The U.S. created several pension plans for soldiers and sailors through its early history. But fast forward to the Civil War, and we find the first true government relief program that could be called a social security system, according to the SSA.
The Civil War Pension Program was signed into law in 1862 and provided funds to U.S. soldiers who were disabled in battle. Widows and orphans could receive pensions equal in amount to what would have been paid to a surviving veteran.
By 1890, the law changed so that any disability—from battle or not—would qualify a vet for funds. In 1906, old age was made a sufficient qualification for benefits. One note: pensioners did not have to pay into the system to receive funds.
Leaping into the 20th century and again to the Great Depression, we come to Social Security's true start. What's interesting to note is that several states at that time, such as New York and Massachusetts, passed limited pension plans for the elderly before the federal government did.
In June 1934, FDR announced his intention to provide a social security program. He created the Committee on Economic Security to come up with the exact plans for the system.
FDR submitted a bill with the recommendations, and it eventually passed both houses of Congress and was signed into law on Aug. 14, 1935.
How has Social Security expanded?
Initially, the SSA was charged with providing benefits only to retirees and some unemployed people.
The benefits for retirees was not supposed to be permanent. It was to be a temporary "relief" program that would eventually disappear as more people were able to obtain retirement income. And there were limits on the unemployed. Job categories not covered by the initial act included workers in agriculture, domestic service, government employees, and many teachers, nurses, hospital employees, librarians, and social workers.
A 1939 change in the law added survivors' benefits and benefits for the retiree's spouse and children.
By 1950, Social Security laws expanded coverage to all non-government workers, including the self-employed. It wasn't until 1983 that civilian federal workers—such as the President of the United States—were eligible for Social Security benefits.
Another change to Social Security was the addition of Disability Insurance program in 1956. This provides monthly cash benefits for disabled workers and their dependents who have paid into the system, and met minimum work requirements.
An important note of change involves Medicare and Medicaid. Medicare is the nation's health insurance program for people age 65 or older; Medicaid is a health and medical services program for low income individuals and families. Both were established in 1965 under a Social Security reform law.
But they are not a direct part of Social Security. Like Social Security, Medicare is financed by a portion of the payroll taxes paid by workers and their employers. ButMedicare is also financed in part by monthly premiums deducted from Social Security checks.
What is the basis of your Social Security number?
Ever wonder why the Social Security numbers are the way they are?The numbers are designed to make sure benefits are accurate.
The first three digits are assigned by the geographical region in which the person was residing at the time they obtained a number.
Generally, numbers were assigned beginning in the northeast and moving westward. So people on the east coast have the lowest numbers and those on the west coast have the highest numbers.
The remaining six digits in the number are more or less randomly assigned and organized to ease bookkeeping procedures.
And by the way, no serial number 0000 has ever been assigned. Social Security numbers were first issued in November 1936. To date, 453.7 million different numbers have been send out.
When a Social Security card holder dies, that number is not reused.
What is the controversy surrounding Social Security?
Often called the “third rail” of American politics, Social Security has been attacked from both sides of the political spectrum.
Big business opposed Social Security from its beginning because it imposed new taxes, new bookkeeping requirements, and"undermined the absolute dependence of the employees on the company."
Many on the left said it didn't go far enough to help citizens and was discriminatory—nearly two-thirds of all African Americans in the labor force and just over half of all women employed were not covered by Social Security at its inception.
There have been calls for many changes over the years: raise the retirement age, reduce benefits, and privatize the SSA by transferring the funds held by the government to Wall Street investment firms.
The impact of Social Security may be underlined by the fact that 8 percent of the elderly receiving Social Security benefits are poor, according to U.S. government standards. Meanwhile, forty-eight percent of Americans would be below the poverty line if they didn't receive a monthly Social Security check, according to government statistics.
