No 1st Amendment Rights For “Duck Dynasty” Star –
Who’s Next? REV MICHAEL BRESCIANI
A gaggle of pundits joined Sean Hannity on his show Thursday night and
debated whether “Duck Dynasty”’s Phil Robertson had stepped over the great
unseen line to insult the sensitivities of the LGBT, gays in general, and the
newly forming army of last day’s reprobates in our nation of pop culture
sleaze.
Robertson has been canned for correctly paraphrasing the contents of a
book in the Bible written to the church of Corinth by the Apostle Paul. To wit:
“Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God?
Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers
nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor
slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1Co 6: 9-10 NIV)
In the Hannity debate, one idea kept coming to the fore that seemed like
a reasonable answer. The suggestion was made that rather than waiting for huge
groups of “Dynasty” fans to boycott the A&E show, the entire “Dynasty” cast
should walk out together in protest.
The Bible Robertson is so willing to stand on also covers the subject of
quitting – that too is also not allowed among the faithful.
Believers are told to hold fast to God’s word and live out the examples
Christ gave in the face of all sorts of adversity and resistance, which would
include the loss of jobs and careers.
Have Phil Robertson’s First Amendment rights to freedom of religion and freedom of speech been violated? And
is the suspension from the A&E show a violation of the law?
In fact, it is; and not even the LGBT with its emerging new favor among
the fallen and fickle of the nation have the right to deny Robertson’s civil
rights. This one should be tested in the courts, but not in the court of public
opinion.
Should Phil turn over and die, or stand and fight this abuse of power
fostered by the trends of the new left louses of lust and looseness?
Over nine million fans of “Duck Dynasty” will now have to submit to the
collective spanking the LGBT (and others in the new school of law by
sensitivities and trends) doles out for them until the matter is completely
resolved.
Robertson’s comments were not made on his show, but were part of an
interview with GQ magazine.
Phil is quoted for saying, “start with homosexual behavior and just
morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman
and that woman and those men. – don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the
idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the
drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of
God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
Robertson also said, “It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would
be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s
more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m
saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
Let’s see. Robertson’s quoted the Bible accurately, he expressed a
pretty logical analysis or exegesis of the scripture passage, and he was well
within his First Amendment rights of expression.
For this, he is labeled a ‘homophobe’ and loses his job.
Did this happen in America?
Let’s rein this nonsense in. It is clearly time to admit that those
throwing around the derogatory term ‘homophobe’ have become ‘truthophobes.’
The great moral decline the Bible warns about in the last days has a
unique element to it. When homosexuality is addressed, it is followed by a
warning that it is birthed by the effort to remove all the specifics about
rampant immorality, not just from the scene, but from the very mind and
consciences of all men.
“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God
gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not
convenient” (Ro 1: 28)
The LGBT and GLAAD have done a marvelous job of indoctrinating this
weak-minded, pop culture-driven generation; but even they should pause and take
a look at the Constitution of the United States because even in this troubled hour, the First Amendment is still there.
The Bible is still here as well, and it does not agree that gays were
born that way. It does, however, intimate that they have got themselves a good
helping of last days devils to promote their position in the public.
“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the
dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false
prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth
unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the

Nunca se ha visto en la historia de Estados Unidos a un presidente
cometer tantos actos que en otros casos hubieran sido causa de impugnación y
que hayan pasado como algo de una importancia secundaria.
El que llamó a Barack Hussein Obama el presidente de teflón, hizo una
analogía impecable. A Obama
no se le pega nada, puede tener la política doméstica exterior peor de los últimos
años desde Jimmy Carter,
pero todavía es tratado como un individuo de una capacidad superior, un
estadista para la historia.
¿Por qué? Esta
pregunta sin lugar a dudas tiene su respuesta en los medios de comunicación que
han exaltado su figura a niveles místicos. Podemos considerar que la
inclinación de izquierda de Obama tiene algo que ver con esto, pero hay casos
de políticos de izquierda que han cometido hechos de menor importancia que los de Obama y a la prensa
no le ha quedado más remedio que denunciarlos.
Lo que hace parecer diferente en este caso es la raza de Obama. El primer presidente negro de una
nación que era vista como racista, que las fotos de la policía echándole los
perros a los negros aparecían como una situación diaria en los Estados Unidos,
en los periódicos globalmente, ha sido como una reivindicación para los
americanos en el mundo.
Algo como que han reconocido su error y ahora aceptan a los negros.
Esto es bueno hasta cierto punto, y debiera haber sido bueno para la
armonía racial y sobre todo
una oportunidad para los negros de superar su condición en la sociedad al
sentirse iguales que los blancos con un presidente negro.
Pero lo que hemos visto es una situación de péndulo, y no sólo en la
sociedad, y en los medios de comunicación pero en el presidente y los miembros
de su administración que no desaprovechan oportunidad para inferir que todavía
los Estados Unidos son un país racista.
Lo peor es que esto ha traído una situación en que los negros, en vez de
asimilarse racialmente, han creado
una auto-segregación arrogante y confortativa, en que piden derechos en casos
de conducta criminal por el hecho de ser negros.
Los negros tienen cuatro veces más probabilidades de ser arrestados por
crímenes violentos y no menos de ocho veces más probabilidades de ser arrestado por robo.
Entonces nos dicen que los negros son arrestados tan a menudo porque la policía establece
injustamente un perfil discriminatorio. Los medios de comunicación quieren que
creamos que la policía está arrestando a los negros en masa, ya sean culpables o
inocentes.
Esta visión ha hecho que muchas autoridades locales han aprobado leyes para
corregir lo que ellos creen que pudiera ser una situación racista por parte de
la policía.
La policía se defiende y dicen con lógica que arrestan a gran número
de negros sólo porque un gran número de negros están cometiendo un gran número
de los delitos.
La mejor prueba para determinar si hay parcialidad por parte de la policía
es comparar los números sobre la delincuencia. — si, por ejemplo, podemos
determinar que la mitad los
ladrones son negros, y nos encontramos con que aproximadamente la dos tercera
parte de los ladrones detenidos por la policía son negros —sería suficiente
para demostrar discriminación..
¿Pero qué información tenemos sobre la raza en la delincuencia?
Los negros tienen siete veces más probabilidades que las personas de
otras razas para cometer
asesinato, ocho veces más probabilidades de cometer robo. Cuando los negros
cometen delitos de violencia, son casi tres veces más probabilidades que sea
contra otros negros.
Los delincuentes negros
tienen más posibilidad de usar un arma y más de dos veces más probabilidades de
usar un cuchillo
,De los casi 770.000 crímenes violentos cometiedos
el año que termina , los negros cometieron el 85 por ciento y los blancos
cometen el 15 por ciento.
Ahora contrario a épocas anteriores que era lo opuesto, los negros tienen 2.25
veces más probabilidad de comete los designados oficialmente crímenes de odio
contra los blancos que viceversa.
Estos números oficiales lo que enseñan es que elegir un presidente negro,
no sólo no han arreglado
las diferencias raciales pero las han aumentado.
Pero cuando se le pregunta a un negro, aunque el negro sea una persona
educada y decente, que debieran sentirse preocupados por la situación, siempre
contesta que la situación de los negros ahora es mejor.
Lo mismo nos dicen los números de comunicación, no importa lo que digan las
estadísticas.
Los negros ahora están más dependientes del estado paternalista que nunca,
no han aumentado su autoestima, pero la han disminuido.
Si se niega lo que es evidente en la sociedad, no es de extrañar que el
primer presidente negro sea de teflón.

President
Obama is packing his bags for a 17-day, taxpayer-funded Christmas vacation to
Hawaii, The Washington
Times reported. The
vacation begins on Friday, December 20.
The first
family will reportedly be
shacking up at a palatial oceanfront home that rents for $24,500 a week. When
you toss in the shaved ice, greens fees, and gas for Air Force One, the
American taxpayers could be on the hook for one mighty expensive Hawaiian
holiday.
The
Hawaii Reporter ran the numbers on last year's trip and found that it cost
taxpayers more than $4 million. That's some pricy poi.
And while
the first family enjoys pampering in paradise, it'll be anything but a vacation
for folks who live close by, according to Hawaii
News Now. Residents will be subjected to roadblocks and security checks. A
popular canal will be closed and patrolled by Navy Seals and military blockades
have reportedly been erected on the beach.
"One
time they stopped me – they opened up my gas cap to look into the lawn
mower," resident Norman Asing told the newspaper.
And as
much as the locals enjoy the attention, some say the inconvenience has worn
thin.
"I
understand he's the president and so he needs his security, but I'd like for
him to pick next year another spot," one resident told the newspaper. 'At
first it was exciting, but now it's no longer exciting. It's maddening."
I still
don't understand why the president can't let his hair down somewhere within the
continental United States. Why not Branson, Missouri or Pigeon Forge, Tenn.?
Branson's
annual festival of lights is breathtaking and the "3 Redneck Tenors"
are a holiday hoot! And who doesn't love Dollywood at Christmas? As Amy Grant
once sang, there's nothing quite like a tender Tennessee Christmas (not to
mention the pancakes at Cracker Barrel).
But those
closest to the president argue that an above-average president can't vacation
like an average American.
The
editor of Newsweek once declared that President Obama is "sort of
God" and MSNBC's Chris Matthews was nearly brought to tears when he was
granted an audience with The One.
"He
came to us today," Matthews declared. "He came amongst us."
Robert
Gibbs, the president's former press secretary told The Washington Post that Hawaii
is where he goes to recharge "both physically and emotionally."
"The
schedule is one that's relaxing," he said. "The climate is warm like
he likes it. It's the perfect elixir for having had a long and busy year in
national politics."
Gibbs
does have a point. The president has had such a grueling life in the nation's capitol
– with a countless stream of parties to attend, weekend golf outings and
basketball games, and lavish trips on Air Force One. And lest we forget,
President Obama has been forced to live in the squalor of public housing –
where his every need is attended to by butlers and maids and chefs and
gardeners.
Oh, how I
pity the president. Indeed, he is truly worthy of a vacation fit for a king.
I'm
surprised the White House Travel Office hasn't used the Priceline Negotiator.
Utilizing William Shatner's services is a sure-fire way to save the taxpayers a
few dollars.
I was
able to get online and found President Obama some great accommodations at the
Best Western Hotel in Honolulu.
"Maid
service was great, staff was friendly, the room most importantly was very clean
and adequate," wrote one guest.
For just
$90 a night, the first family could get free Wi-Fi, a continental breakfast, an
in-room safe to store the nuclear launch codes plus a rollaway bed for Valerie
Jarrett.

LA TEORÍA DE LAS VENTANAS ROTAS
En 1969, en la Universidad de Stanford (EEUU), el Prof. Phillip Zimbardo realizó un experimento de psicología social. Dejó 2 autos abandonados en la calle. Eran 2 autos idénticos: la misma marca, modelo y hasta igual color. Uno lo dejó en el Bronx, por entonces una zona pobre y conflictiva de Nueva York y el otro en Palo Alto, una zona rica y tranquila de California. Dos autos idénticos abandonados en dos barrios con poblaciones muy diferentes y con un equipo de especialistas en psicología social estudiando las conductas de la gente en cada uno de estos sitios. Resultó que el auto abandonado en el Bronx comenzó a ser "canibalizado". En pocas horas perdió las llantas, el motor, los espejos, la radio, etc. Todo lo aprovechable se lo llevaron, y lo que no, lo destruyeron. En cambio el auto abandonado en Palo Alto se mantuvo intacto... Es muy común atribuir a la pobreza las causas del delito. Es esta atribución en la que coinciden las posiciones ideológicas más conservadoras (las de derecha y de izquierda). Sin embargo, el experimento en cuestión no finalizó ahí. Cuando el auto abandonado en el Bronx ya estaba deshecho y el de Palo Alto ya llevaba una semana impecable, los investigadores rompieron un vidrio del automóvil de Palo Alto... El resultado fue que se desató el mismo proceso que en el Bronx y el robo, la violencia y el vandalismo redujeron el vehículo al mismo estado en que quedó el del barrio pobre. ¿Por qué el vidrio roto en el auto abandonado en un vecindario supuestamente seguro era capaz de generar todo un proceso delictivo? Aquí no se trataba de pobreza. Evidentemente, era algo que tenía que ver con la psicología humana y con las relaciones sociales. Un vidrio roto en un auto abandonado transmite una idea de deterioro, de desinterés, de despreocupación que va rompiendo códigos de convivencia, como de ausencia de ley, de normas, de reglas, como que vale todo. Cada nuevo ataque que sufría el auto sin que alguien se preocupara del mismo, reafirmaba y multiplicaba esa idea, hasta que la escalada de actos, cada vez peores, se Volvía incontenible, desembocando en una violencia irracional. En experimentos posteriores, los profesores James Q. Wilson y George Kelling desarrollaron la "Teoría de las Ventanas Rotas", la misma que desde un punto de vista criminológico, concluye que el delito es mayor en las zonas donde el descuido, la suciedad, el desorden y el maltrato son mayores. Si se rompe el vidrio de una ventana en un edificio y nadie lo repara, pronto estarán rotos todos los demás vidrios del edificio. Si una comunidad exhibe signos de deterioro y esto no parece importarle a nadie, entonces allí se generará el delito. Si se cometen "pequeñas faltas" (estacionarse en un lugar prohibido, exceder el límite de velocidad o pasarse una luz roja) y las mismas no son sancionadas, entonces comenzarán faltas mayores y luego, delitos cada vez más graves. Si se permiten actitudes violentas como algo normal en el desarrollo de los niños, el patrón de desarrollo será de cada vez mayor violencia y cuando estos niños sean adultos; ya que de niños "aprendieron" que esa actitud era "normal" y/o "correcta"; entonces actuarán de manera delictiva, pero teniendo la certeza de que esos actos NO SON ILEGALES. Si los parques y otros espacios públicos deteriorados son progresivamente abandonados por la mayoría de la gente (que, muchas veces, deja de salir de sus casas por temor a las pandillas), esos mismos espacios abandonados por la gente son progresivamente ocupados por los delincuentes. La Teoría de las Ventanas Rotas fue aplicada por primera vez a mediados de la década de los ´80 en el Metro de Nueva York, el cual se había convertido en el punto más peligroso de la ciudad.
Se comenzó por
combatir las pequeñas transgresiones: graffitis que deterioraban el
lugar, suciedad en las estaciones, ebriedad entre el público, evasiones del
pago del pasaje, pequeños robos y desórdenes.
Los resultados fueron
evidentes. Comenzando por lo pequeño se logró hacer del Metro un lugar
seguro... Es decir, si se
combate un delito pequeño se evita el desarrollo de un delito mayor...
Posteriormente, en 1994, Rudolph Giuliani, alcalde de Nueva York, basado en la Teoría de las Ventanas Rotas y en la experiencia del Metro, impulsó una política de "'tolerancia cero". Es decir, combatir a fondo aún los delitos considerados menores... La estrategia consistía en crear comunidades limpias y ordenadas, no permitiendo transgresiones a la ley y a las normas de convivencia urbana. El resultado práctico fue un enorme abatimiento de TODOS los índices criminales de la ciudad de Nueva York. La expresión "tolerancia cero" suena a una especie de solución autoritaria y represiva, pero su concepto principal es más bien el de la prevención y promoción de condiciones sociales de seguridad. No se trata de linchar al delincuente, ni de incentivar la prepotencia de la policía, de hecho, respecto de los abusos de autoridad debe también aplicarse la "tolerancia cero". De lo que se trata NO es aplicar "tolerancia cero" frente a la persona que comete el delito, sino aplicar "tolerancia cero" frente al delito mismo. Se trata de crear comunidades limpias, ordenadas, respetuosas de la ley y de RESPETAR los códigos básicos de la convivencia social humana. Frente a la cantidad de mentiras y mediocres explicaciones dadas por algunos de nuestros dirigentes sobre este tema, es bueno volver a leer esta Teoría y de paso, difundirla para llegar a los educandos .... |

What A&E has done was best
described by astronaut Gus Grissom half a century ago, as recorded for
posterity in The Right Stuff. It has committed a deviant act: symbolic
bestiality. A&E has screwed the pooch.
Can you spell “dumb”? The only
hope is that buyers do not figure out that they are making money for A&E.
Let’s see if Walmart follows
A&E’s lead.
The Robertsons can cut a deal
with Walmart or Target 12 months after the last Duck Dynasty show airs in a few
months, if the family decides to start a new show. A&E will then get
leftovers.
We see here a failure to honor a
familiar principle: count the cost. Choose your tactics accordingly. Do not
overplay your hand. The great master of this was the Leftist organizer, Saul
Alinsky. He assessed his strength. He assessed his opponents’ strength. Then he
adopted a plan of action. He understood what it takes for a tiny minority to
gain leverage. In Rules for Radicals (1972),
he wrote this:
We will start with the system
because there is no other place to start from except political lunacy. It is
most important for those of us who want revolutionary change to understand that
revolution must be preceded by reformation. To assume that a political
revolution can survive without a supporting base of popular reformation is to
ask for the impossible in politics. Men don’t like to step abruptly out of the
security of familiar experience; they need a bridge to cross from their own
experience to a new way. A revolutionary organizer must shake up the prevailing
patterns of their lives — agitate, create disenchantment and discontent with
the current values, to produce, if not a passion for change, at least a
passive, affirmative, non-challenging climate. “The revolution was effected
before the war commenced; John Adams wrote. “The Revolution was in the hearts
and minds of the people. . . . This radical change in the principles, opinions,
sentiments and affections of the people was the real American Revolution.” A
revolution without a prior reformation would collapse or become a totalitarian
tyranny.
From day one, the people at
A&E violated this tactical rule.

SHOW PHIL WHO’S BOSS!”
Phil Robertson is a curmudgeon’s
curmudgeon. He is almost perfect. As the folks in Hollywood are said to say, it
is as if he was sent by central casting.
If you have seen him on Duck Dynasty, you
know that he is articulate. He has a peculiar way of speaking, which I noticed
almost from the beginning. But his eloquence is unique. It is a strange eloquence. He grabs your attention, not simply because of what he says, but
because of the way that he says it. It is no-frills speech. He does not waste a
word. And he chooses his words carefully.
There is no question that A&E
had no idea that this program would become the dominant cable show in history.
There is no way that anybody could have predicted that. Robertson himself did
not think it would work. But it did.
The producers of the show
initially did their best to suppress its Christian overtones. As Robertson said
before the recent flap, by removing references to Jesus whenever possible, the
producers tried to make the family something it wasn’t. The editors bleeped out

Colorado Sheriffs Refuse to Enforce Gun Control Law
There are 62 sheriffs in
Colorado, and 55 of them are challenging the law in a court case. Most are
unwilling to enforce the state’s anti-gun laws. They refuse to arrest known
violators, or else they let them loose. The voters in rural counties prefer it this
way.
One of them publicly carries a
pair of banned 30-round magazines for rifles, called assault rifles by the
media.
The state government is taking a
hands-off position. “We’re not in the position of telling sheriffs and chiefs
what to do or not to do,” said Lance Clem, a spokesman for the Colorado
Department of Public Safety. “We have people calling us all the time, thinking
they’ve got an issue with their sheriff, and we tell them we don’t have the
authority to intervene.”
The New York Times adds this: “Sheriffs who refuse to enforce gun laws around the country
are in the minority, though no statistics exist.” Let me translate: “We’re
liberal. We like gun control laws, so we have decided to announce that anti-gun
control sheriffs are in the minority. We will hold to this story until
statistics exist to the contrary. We may decide to hold to it even after
statistics to the contrary are available. It’s our call. It’s our newspaper. We
get to do what we want.”

Me encuentro en New York, celebrando unas pascuas anticipadas con la
familia de mi hijo mayor que se encuentra diseminada por todo el país. ya los
nietos ya tienen compromisos con sus nuevas parejas y decidimos reunirnos en la gran
manzana en una celebración de nochebuena adelantada en el Victor Café, para que
puedan después cada uno cumplir sus obligaciones para con sus nueva relaciones
familiares.
El espíritu pascual en Manhattan, a mi parecer es único en el mundo , y
durante mis visitas esporádicas he visto las diferentes etapas porque ha
vivido.
Como de la capital del mundo, se convirtió en una ciudad de vagabundos
con Manhattan como un lugar donde uno no se sentía seguro en ninguna parte.
Pero llegó Guliani, y New
York pasó de la inseguridad a la serenidad.
Cuando pensamos en
un tema de actualidad es y pensamos en la inseguridad. Al buscar un nombre que
sea sinónimo de seguridad el que viene a la mente es el de Rudolph Giuliani.
Ayer estábamos en el parque Bryant, tarde en la noche, un lugar de paz y
tranquilidad, los jóvenes patinando las familias paseando.
Es difícil pensar que hace unos años no se podía estar en ese lugar
porque era la residencia de vagabundos y suciedad, los mismo se puede decir del
Parque Central..
-Siempre hay una relación entre política y seguridad, porque la
seguridad en gran medida está provista por el Estado. Y como es lógico hay la
diferencia entre conservadores y liberales.
Cuando Guliani estableció lo que llamaron “tolerancia cero” los
liberales lo calificaron de fascismo.
Guliane llamó a su programa no como tolerancia cero, pero como un
programa de la renovación de la Calidad de Vida.
Pero tuvo mucha oposición de la
Prensa Liberal con el New York times a la cabeza.
Tuvo resistencia de los sectores de los barrios que consideraban que era
una invasión excesiva, no de la privacidad de la gente, sino de su derecho a
movilizarse y a estar libre de interferencia policial.
El programa para los desamparados también tuvo detractores políticos,
porque hay todo un grupo en la ciudad que consideraba que la gente tiene derecho a vivir
en la calle.
La Constitución no dice en ningún lugar que haya un derecho a vivir en
la calle pero decían que Guliani estaba violando la Constitución.
Como puede ser mejor para una ciudad estar como estaba New York llena de
vagabundos.
Esto crea peligro, crea condiciones antihigiénicas, puede ser un peligro
para la salud, tanto de la persona que vive en la calle como para otras
personas. Y el Estado tiene que tener un rol y un derecho cuanto a evitar eso.
Los liberales se ponen tan
locamente ideológicos que no piensan con claridad.
Incluso la gente que es muy liberal, si lo pensaran seriamente, llega a
la conclusión de que la seguridad es lo primero. No tendrían la posibilidad de
ser liberales si no estuvieran vivos. Con un asesino, no se puede ser ni
liberal ni progresista.
Pero Guliani y su programa está ahora aceptado por todo al que uno
pregunte como lo que salvó a New York.
Fue posible por la tenacidad de Guliani frente a la oposición liberal.
Por eso hoy me pregunto intrigando con la conducta de New York, ¿Cómo

this is not a new Obama’s obsession, so it is not misguided.
Obama's political philosophy is Marxist,

Obama's Misguided Obsession With Inequality
He uses statistics that ignore taxes and transfer payments. Faster
growth is what the poor really need.

In his widely noted speech, President Obama said
that "a dangerous and growing inequality and lack of upward
mobility" is "the defining challenge of our time." This belief
makes Mr. Obama unique: Unlike the other presidents since World War II, he
places inequality above economic growth as the organizing principle of U.S.
economic policy. The president's Dec. 4 speech, at an event hosted by the
Center for American Progress, also stressed that increasing inequality is a
"decades-long trend"—which carries with it the strong implication
that the country needs to reverse the direction it has taken for the last
three decades. But like so many of his other pronouncements, the assumptions
behind his defining challenge are misleading.
Virtually all of the data cited by the left to decry
the supposed explosion of income inequality, as Lee Ohanian and Kip Hagopian
point out in their seminal paper, "The Mismeasure of Inequality"
(Policy Review, 2011), use a Census Bureau definition of "money
income" that excludes taxes, transfer payments like Medicaid, Medicare,
nutrition assistance, the Earned Income Tax Credit, and even costly employee
benefits such as health insurance.
Thus the data that is conventionally used to
calculate the so-called Gini coefficient—the most commonly used measure of
income inequality—ignore America's highly progressive income tax system and
the panoply of benefits and transfer payments. According to Messrs. Ohanian
and Hagopian, once the effect of taxes and transfer payments is taken into
account, "inequality actually declined 1.8% during the 16-year period
between 1993 and 2009, when the Gini coefficient dropped from .395 to
.388."
In his speech, Mr. Obama cited a recent study from
economists at Columbia University that found that already enacted benefits
and tax programs have reduced America's effective poverty rate by 40% since
1967—to 16% from 26%. But he ignores all this when he claims that inequality
is increasing.
The Columbia study shows that Messrs. Ohanian and
Hagopian's research is hardly an outlier. The Congressional Budget Office
released a study that came to a similar conclusion in October 2011. The CBO
study picked an artificial starting point of 1979, amid a crushing period of
stagflation. Yet it still showed that family income, including benefits, on
average experienced a 62% gain above inflation from 1979 to 2007. It also
showed that all five quintiles of the income distribution spectrum
experienced real gains in family income.
The CBO study contradicts Mr. Obama's claims in the
2008 presidential campaign and early in his first term that the middle class
was "falling behind." The real concern is that some people were
getting too far ahead.
With respect to upward mobility, longitudinal
studies conducted by the U.S. Treasury have found that there was
"considerable income mobility" in the decades 1987-1996 and
1996-2005. For example, roughly half of those in the bottom income quintile
in 1996 had moved to a higher quintile by 2005. The "median incomes of
those initially in the lowest income groups increased more in percentage
terms than the median incomes of those in the higher income groups" in
that decade, while the real incomes of two-thirds of all taxpayers
experienced an increase.
Here is the bottom line: In periods of high economic
growth, such as the 1980s and 1990s, the vast majority of Americans gain, and
have the opportunity to gain. In periods of slow growth, such as the past four
and a half years since the recession officially ended, poor people and the
middle class are hurt the most, and opportunity is curbed.
Consider the Census Bureau data, which measure only
money income. The data show that median family income adjusted for inflation
has not been on a steady or stagnating path since the 1970s. It fell, in real
terms, by 5.7% from 1974-1982, when slow growth and high inflation ravaged
the average family. Tellingly, in this period, real income fell for the
bottom four quintiles, but held steady for the top 20%.
From 1983 to 2007, however, median family income
grew substantially—by 21.6% above inflation—and real income grew for all five
quintiles. Then, beginning in 2008, real income plunged again, both for the
median family and for all quintiles.
The point is this: If the goal is to deliver higher
incomes and a better standard of living for the majority of Americans, then
generating economic growth—not income inequality or the redistribution of
wealth—is the defining challenge of our time.
Regarding growth, Mr. Obama claimed in his speech
that we should use some money "to create good jobs rebuilding our roads
and our bridges and our airports, and all the infrastructure our businesses
need." Yet a recent analysis by BCA Research shows a sharp drop in real
spending by the government on nondefense infrastructure since the president
took office. When a Democratic Congress passed the president's massive $800
billion stimulus bill, seven-eighths of the total went to transfer payments like
Medicaid, food stamps and sending a check to millions of Americans who do not
pay income taxes.
The president claims to be concerned about spurring
private investment. But investors at home and abroad can readily see that his
steadfast refusal to reform the country's entitlement programs threatens
spending on physical infrastructure, education, university research and other
items that will contribute to the future productivity of the United States.
That same unrestrained entitlement growth, and the debt that comes with it,
will ultimately compromise the value of dollar-denominated assets. Public
companies have trillions of dollars of cash to invest sitting on their
balance sheets, but the Obama economy's growth record is weak, and
insufficient to attract capital investment.
Straining credulity, Mr. Obama also pointed in his
income inequality speech to the Affordable
Care Act as one of his
initiatives to improve the economy, despite clear evidence that the law's
employer mandate is discouraging full-time employment. For most of this year,
the overwhelming majority of jobs added to the U.S. economy have been
part-time, not full-time. Gallup's payroll-to-population ratio, the
proportion of the American population working full time, has dropped almost
two full percentage points in the last year, to 43.8%.
Mr. Obama said in his speech that "making sure
our economy works for every working American" is what "drives everything
I do in this office." Accomplishing this worthy goal requires growth,
not redistribution.

It is difficult to combat a shadowy organization like Al Qaeda, but it is far
more difficult to combat lone wolf actors. Al Qaeda may be difficult to
infiltrate and gather intelligence on, but how do we “infiltrate” a lone
Jihadist?
This is symptomatic of a revolutionary Jihadist
subculture metastasizing within the American Muslim community, especially
within some of its mosques and organizations. This revolutionary subculture has
produced an atmosphere in which Jihadis are inspired to act violently on their
own, as well as part of organizations.
This is a very dangerous and volatile situation.
Over the last 12 months alone, we have been provided
with a stack of evidence of the Jihadist insurgency inside America. Americans
have largely ignored this evidence, or at least failed to “connect the dots.”
Seemingly completely unrelated cases do in fact have common threads: they are
acts of Jihad. And these are not in actuality isolated incidents, but rather
are linked by a common ideology that animates and motivates Jihadis
everywhere….it’s only some that respond with actual, overt violent action, but
many others are inspired to support passively, with words only, or financially.
This is a global movement with a unified core ideology and doctrine rooted in
Islam.
It is not difficult to go back and research examples
of Jihad in America over the course of a calendar year, such as 2011. What
follows is a list of incidents, cases, actions, statements and plots which

Samitier: The Cuba Embargo: A USA Foreign Policy
Success Story…
In fact, few U.S. foreign policy measures in recent
history have been as phenomenally successful as our limited sanctions against
the Stalinist Robber-Barons who run Cuba. First off, for three decades the
Soviet Union was forced to pump the equivalent of almost ten
Marshall Plans into Cuba. This cannot have helped the Soviet
Union’s precarious solvency or lengthened her life span. Secondly, the U.S.
taxpayer has been spared the fleecing visited upon many others who reside in
nations who eschew “embargoing” Cuba. To wit:
The U.S. has transacted almost $4 BILLION in trade
with Cuba over the past decade. Up until two years ago, the U.S.
served as Stalinist Cuba’s biggest food supplier and fifth biggest import
partner. We’ve fallen a
few notches recently, but we’re still in the top half. Nowadays the so-called
U.S. embargo mostly stipulates that the Castro regimepay cash up front through a
third–party bank for all U.S. medical and agricultural products; no Ex-Im (U.S.
taxpayer) financing of such sales. Enacted
by the Bush team in 2001 this cash-up-front policy has kept the U.S. taxpayer
among the few spared fleecing by Castro. Here’s a few items regarding the
so-called embargo studiously “side-stepped” by much of the MSM (especially
those with Havana Bureaus):
Per-capita-wise, Cuba qualifies as the world’s biggest
debtor nation with a foreign debt of close to $50 billion, a credit–rating
nudging Somalia’s, and an uninterrupted record of defaults.
In 1986 Cuba defaulted on most of her foreign debt to
Europe. Five years ago France’s version of the U.S. government’s Export-Import
Bank (named COFACE) cut off Cuba’s credit line. Mexico’s Bancomex quickly
followed suit. The Castro regime had stuck it to French taxpayers for $175
million and to Mexican taxpayers for $365 million. Bancomex was forced to
impound Cuban assets in three different countries in an attempt to recoup its
losses.
Just this week we heard from one of Castro’s latest
suckers: “The Cuban regime has a long track record of failing to pay back our
loans,” lamented South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Trade & Industry,Geordin
Hill-Lewis. “In
2010, South Africa had to write off R1.1 billion in bad Cuban debt, and on Friday we
wrote off another R250 million in bad debt. The time has come for South Africa to
invest in strategic partnerships that deliver prosperity for our people.”
So U.S. taxpayers, if it’s true that “political pressure” by a “powerful” and sinister cabal of Cuban-American
Republican string-pullers maintain the so-called embargo—then, well… you are
quite welcome! Glad we could help… and SAVE MONEY
TO THE USA citizens
Last week
the media was flush with stories on the 50th Anniversary of the U.S. “embargo”
of Cuba.
From the New York Times to USA Today, most are
running AP and Reuters stories (from Havana) which begin and end with quotes
from “academic experts” deploring the “embargo” as “failed,” “archaic,”
“cruel,” “political pandering to Republican Cuban-Americans,” blah, blah…
First off, a totalitarian regime bestowed both Reuters
and the AP with press bureaus. There was a day when Americans understood what
this implied. For those who’ve forgotten, here’s a quote from Vicente Botin,
who reported for Madrid’s El Pais from Cuba for years. “The Castro regime
assigns 20 security agents to follow and monitor every foreign journalist. You
practice self–censorship or you’re gone.”
And that’s lucky for those foreign journalists,
because local Cuban journalists don’t get off so easily. They don’t get a
discreet little note saying, “Dear foreign journalist, we need to talk. It
appears that you have forgotten the code of conduct we so clearly stipulated
upon your arrival in Cuba and the agreed-upon subject matters for your
reporting. So let us remind you of these two: 1.) The diabolical Yankee
blockade of our innocent little nation which makes us the world’s poster child
for victims of wanton bullying. 2.) Our munificent and magnificent Health Care
and Education, which makes us the world’s beacon of social-consciousness and
charity.”
Cuban journalists who sidestep the above in order to
expose human rights violation (by a regime that surpassed Stalin’s rate of
political torture and jailings) can’t then tuck their tail between their legs,
scamper onto a plane and zoom off. They can’t courageously grimace and shake
their fists behind them after they’re 2000 feet aloft and 500 miles distant
from Castro’s KGB-trained police.
Instead, a Cuban journalist who forsakes
self-censorship gets grabbed by this KGB-trained police and thrown in a torture
chamber. In fact, according to “Reporters Without Borders” (headquartered in
Paris, not Miami), Cuba jails journalists at the highest rate of any nation on
earth. Stunningly, the total number of journalists jailed in Cuba (a nation of
11 million) is only slightly behind that of China (a nation of 1.4 billion!).
With this data in mind, let’s revisit what some of
America’s swankiest journalists and media moguls have to say regarding the
world’s top jailer and torturer of journalists:
“Fidel Castro could have been Cuba’s Elvis!” That’s
multiple-Peabody and Emmy award-winning Dan Rather (and yes, CBS has a Havana
News Bureau).
“Fidel Castro is one hell of a guy!” Ted Turner gushed
to a capacity crowd at Harvard Law School during a speech in 1997. “You people
would like him! Most people in Cuba like him.” Within weeks of Turner’s eulogy,
CNN was granted its coveted Havana Bureau, the first ever granted by Castro to
a foreign network.
“Fidel Castro is old-fashioned, courtly — even
paternal, a thoroughly fascinating figure!” That’s Andrea Mitchell, who won the
Goldsmith Career Award for “Excellence in Journalism” (and yes, NBC somehow
earned a Havana Bureau).
“Castro has brought very high literacy and great
health-care to his country. His personal magnetism is powerful, his presence is
commanding.” That’s multiple-Emmy-winning journalist Barbara Walters (and yes,
ABC was somehow bestowed a Havana Bureau).

This list of journalistic luminaries included Mike Wallace, Peter Jennings, Tina Brown, Bernard Shaw, Barbara Walters, and Diane Sawyer, who all stood in line for Castro’s autograph and jostled for a photo-op with the mass-murderer who had craved to nuke them.

But Diane Sawyer was so overcome in Castro’s presence
that she lost control, rushing up, breaking into that toothy smile of hers,
wrapping her arms around the Stalinist mass murderer and smooching him warmly
on his bearded cheek.
“You people are the cream of the crop!” beamed the
mass-murderer to the beaming throng he’d come within a hair of nuking in 1962.
“Hear, hear!” chirped the beaming guests, while
tinkling their wine glasses in honor of the smirking agent of their near
vaporization and world leader in jailing and torturing their Cuban
counterparts.

Another check in the 'yes' column. Armed police teams serving in every government agency, ready to carry out a forceful raid whenever they're ordered to? Shockingly, this is also true. My friend, it saddens me how much our nation has changed. Our government has quietly armed itself to the teeth and individual agencies are carrying out their own agendas through fear, intimidation, and the threat of violence. We're dangerously close to living in a de facto police state.
